Seems pretty sensible, so you were always likely to oppose it.

I assume they will review it if there is a huge surge in thefts of garden gnomes.

i assume Scottish people expect a police force to act like a police force not declare they're giving it up.

scottish indie to go to court as a fraud.

some of us noticed years ago. 😛

Gosh, I will admit I'll be a wee bit disappointed if Scottish Indie is found guilty of fraud in court.

it was found guilty of that in the court of public opinion in 2014.

Swinney seems a decent guy, but making Forbes his deputy confirms the claim that the SNP are a left wing party as false. I’m not even sure the Tory’s would give such a senior job to someone who believes gay marriage is a sin in 2024.

probably just what they want, forbes as dep help push the idea that the greens social agenda is history,

At least she was never in the ERG.

I don’t think anyone in labour shadow cabinet was either, although possible Rayner has been going in disguise. I don’t think labour would appoint someone against gay marriage to a senior role in 2024, but happy for you to quote this if it happens!

If there was the slightest sign of Forbes odious views influencing policy then they would lose my membership & probably my vote (Tories are nearest challenger to SNP in my constituency. If it looks like there is any danger of the Tories getting in, I might have to hold my nose & vote SNP)

Its interesting that someone with her views holds so much sway with SNP and voters that Swinney had to do a deal to keep them sweet.

strangely though, unlike at least one other party, they haven't felt the need to abandon most of their core principles to attract the votes of racists and bigots.

Isn’t their only principle nationalism? Lean left in certain areas of Scotland and more conservative in others to try and get to 50.1 percent?

cos they're already living on the votes of racists and bigots - always the core of nationalism., and stoked with some regular grievance mining (against their english betters. 😛 )

its certainly why they exist. and it always makes me laugh when opponents suggest that they should abandon their pursuit of independence. But then, it would appear, political parties abandoning their principles is OK with a lot of folk on here.

I think all parties "adjust" their message to suit local views. Do you think Labour's campaign in Bradford will be the same as it is in Islington?

"She" is Kate Forbes...

On Friday she told BBC Scotland News that she would "wholeheartedly endorse" the Scottish government position.

She said: "The first minister has been absolutely clear that the Scottish government intends to promote, to protect and to enhance the rights of every LGBT person in Scotland, and I wholeheartedly endorse that position."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c97zv90d77do#chameleon-global-navigation-more-menu

Incidentally, it's very hard to find reports of this statement by Forbes but remarkably easy to find content attacking her appointment. Odd isn't it?

The numbers aren’t there to ban gay marriage, you would probably would struggle to find a Tory msp who doesn’t believe in marriage equality. However the fact remains the SNP deputy leader doesn’t believe that gay people should have the same rights as straight people. Her “no sex before marriage “ guidance could also cause issues with the birth rate in Scotland!

    • All of these were published in July of their respective year. Appreciate the festival is a little later than normal but it must surely be live in the next 48 hours? The first events start in five days! 🤣
    • Took the words out of my mouth. He never misses.   Definitely adds fuel to the fire.
    • Gavin Leigh Davis on Instagram, the Fabrizio Romano of tour leaks, says Sam Fender outdoor shows and likely festivals next year. Didn't explicitly mention Glastonbury but adds more to the rumour
    • I think a lot of you guys don't see Tate McRae as headliner material however she was originally billed to play back in 2025 and had to pull out (https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/glastonbury-2025-headliners-revealed-tickets-line-up-1235915362/). She sold out out all of her arena shows in 2025 and just brought in huge crowds at Oshega and Lollapalooza. Given that she's gearing up to release the second album it lines her up for a tour run in her same gap as she's usually over here over Glaso weekend. I wouldn't rule her out.
    • I’d expect U2 & Muse to be options too.
