The Third Headliner...

I'm not claiming to be the all knowing lord of live music. What I am saying is that after seeing them at the O2 a few years ago and finding something... Off, about their performance, I looked into it and found a few reports that seemed to confirm my suspicions, and having spoken to people in bands who have shared a stage with them it was confirmed that as an observer from the side of the stage it is clear that much of what they do live has been precorded. I'm really not trying to be a dick about this, but from all reports I've heard, the notes that are played have their pitch changed digitally, with the static/feedback/distortion removed and the vocals are sustained and extended by the sound techs. From what I've been told by friend's who are musicians, it's not possible to play a Linkin Park song live (in the traditional sense at least) without thousands of pounds worth of technology backing it up. That's why you don't hear pub bands covering them!

Hi

i've said it elsewhere ....... third Download headliner will be Muse.

No Gazza 20 i do not know, nor care, about the day order.

Download were well pissed about Soni trouncing them last year so have pulled everything out with these 3 headliners .... problem is, will they have any money left for other good acts?

You're right.

Linkin park don't mime but most of what you hear live comes from a sequenced backing track.

Playing to a sequenced backing track isn't always easy to pull off. but when you're playing linkin park songs, where the verses consist solely of vocals and the sequenced backing track and the chorus has live drums, power chords on the guitar, bass and synth thrown in, it's hardly something that takes virtuosic skill and hours of practice.

I'm a musician and know lot's of successful session musicians, technicians, producers and teachers... they would all have mastered the "performing" part of a linkin park live show in their teens.

As far as the awards go, They didn't win a grammy for their live show, the MTV awards are fixed, and the Kerrang awards are voted for by their readers.... a lot of whom, incidentally, are angsty teenagers who listen to Linkin Park.

I don't think they're a terrible band by any means, They're very good at writing atmospheric, angsty pop songs with metal choruses...... but they're far from one of the best live bands in the world.

I'm going to call BS and decide that sure of it I'm not 100% but Q Reviews magazine Editor tweeting, which was then retweeted by Q sounds much more possible. Also, with The Prodigy they would not need to announce it, it's a good popular booking but not a ground breaking one. If it was Rammstein or Nickelback, he'd have bit his arm off I think to announce them, Nicklelback less but 1st time headliner would've had something to it.

spitfireman's post just has troll written all over it, if i'm wrong and he's right then i duely will appologise. You can not know, nor care about the day order but if you told they were the 3rd headliner, you will have been told Friday and it's bull you wouldn't know Sat and Sun are booked already.

Thanks for that 'festival freak' ........ lets just see shall we?

I am not aware what a 'troll' is meant to be but suspect it's anything but a compliment.

All i am passing on is information i have recently received from a very reliable source. Apologies if i prove to be incorrect but i would put good money on Muse being the third headliner ( whatever day) at Download and Rush being a Soni headliner .... with Kiss and Van Halen also appearing at Soni.

I do care and i am far from bored

if someone wanted to put what days the acts were on they would specify, besides thats not the point. he has suggested that muse will be joining metallica and sabbath. besides its a bit obvious what days the others are playing because its already been announced.

you wouldn't have guessed that biffy clyro would headline soni this year though would you? but it happened.

muse have basically played everywhere bar dl & soni in this tour, so they will either take a break for a year or do a one off show while making a new album, then touring again in 2013. (they plan to release it in late 2012)

also download needs a bit of variety considering its going up against soni which makes competition for the heavier acts harder if they are touring.

there is always a choice, no matter how obvious it is... they decided biffy and stuck with it. rightfully so with the performance they gave even if they got slated for not being "metulzzzzz". there could have been a number of different acts but the soni team took a gamble that imo paid off. even soni had to broaden their appeal to bring in some punters.

In my head, it can only be one of these three bands...

Van Halen (heavily speculated. Organisers and fans (mostly) alike enjoy them).

Foo Fighters (Probably doing R&L, but have never done a Download, might pop up. I'd say they'll be doing one or the other).

Machine Head (Old enough and with enough clout within the metal scene again. Playing ARENAS on this tour!).

I'd be happy with ANY of those. Planning on making my return to Download this year, absent since '08!

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
