Surprised there's not a thread about this.

Years ago riots used to be about issues like racial discrimination, poll tax, Vietnam etc... but surely these are just arseholes looking for an excuse to loot. On Saturday night a charity shop got looted FFS.

I'm afraid rioting is a symptom that there's something very wrong with the country - they're looting because they don't have and can't afford. Much of the looting on Saturday was for food. Sky's coverage of it went a bit awry after they interviewed a shop keeper who said they were, "hungry" and they misheard it as "angry". Most of the rioters are young kids that see no future, and most of the programmes that tried to educate them to let them know there was a future have had their funding chopped. Although to be blunt for many of them there is no future. Both the banks and the ecomonies of the west are going to the wall - I still predict it'll be 'black Tuesday' tomorrow.

These are not a one off out of context series of event we've seen multiple student protests, strikes, occupations, marches, and numerous clashes and civil unrest all caused by savage cuts in the name of the ConDemns austerity plan. This is mass unrest reminisent of the early eighties, people are poor, worst off, and facing less and less social support, it won't get better until the government stop their social engineering programme. But with them certain to bail out the banks again in the next month - to aid their bank buddies - we face a second deeper recession, mass unemployment and a rising wave of people unwilling to take it.

Totally agree. I've been watching the news all day and it's just folk out wanting a pop at the police and a chance to go on the rob.

It will be interesting to see what comes out about the shooting of Mark Duggan.

It was a reference to the global outsourcing of poverty and class, and in turn meaningful riots. We generally call riots in small countries Wars.

All disaffected youth are scum? Get yourself down to the poor end of town. Yes, they want free stuff and are wise enough to realise they can get it.... and the solution will be mass teenage curfews at night. when this hgappened in France they declared a state of emergency - it's not just in London either. Next you'll be blaming 'Attack The Block' for putting ideas in their heads. <<<< Daily Mail >>>>
