The seperation between Champions League and European Cup isn't quite as prominent in talks about history and records though. Milan and Real were referenced as the most successful yesterday.

True other leagues have become weaker because of the new format. Malmo who Forest beat in a final would have been a very good team but they aren't now because of how other leagues decline. They are obviously rubbish now though because the CL money filters it to the big leagues. You can see it with Ajax most clearly. Once a powerhouse, now a feeder club.

Shame really isn't it?

Another master plan, give the boys a little bit more holiday for when we win the treble next season.

more trophies? I would say its more important being in the community shield(most years) than winning the carling cup.

Can't be any less effective than Owen can he?

Heard Owen refused might be going to Stoke actually, he's turning down offers to be injured in the Championship. If someone had said this is how his career would end up I would never have believed it.

What a fantastic season its been.

Great climax to the end of season in prem and cl. It seems theres been headlines every week of the field with suarez and gary speed sad death.

Who would of thought at christmas that chelsea would win cl with a manager getting sacked from wba?

Be interesting who buys who in the summer and im even looking forward to the euros.

I think there's a huge number of reasons other leagues have become weaker, but money is the fundamental one behind most of them. There aren't as many people in Holland, so attendances aren't high enough to pay big wages to keep big exciting players to make the teams exciting and competitive internationally to make them get foreign TV money (whether via Champs lge or just overseas broadcasting).

But yeah, it is a huge shame. It's get more and more pronounced and exaggerated over the years as well. Even a decade ago the success and glamour wasn't concentrated into just 2-4 leagues (depending on your view of Serie A and Bundesliga atm).

Happens quite a bit when a player plays alot of games at the top level at an early age.

There body doesnt seem to have time to be strong properly, if im explaining that correct.

Thinking of players like sharpe, fowler and owen. I think giggs is more an exception that the rule.

Its easy to blame the body but I think those 3 names offer a great contrast because Giggs has worked far harder than all of them and reaped the rewards. Im sure Owen is a decent guy but I have never got the impression he is as driven as some of the great players, which probablly explains why he has been happy to play such a minor role.

I can see the amount of teams and leagues winning the trophy increasing in the next 20 years due to money. The likes of Man City and PSG are going to be contenders to win a european cup and possibly a russian side if there investment continues as it has done, We also dont have a clue where the next sheik is going to turn up.
