well took a mild interest in the fa cup this weekend and sunderland still going well. ONly watched one of the games totally and that was the spurs game, and crawley were outstanding and was a shame they didnt do more in front of goal.

As barry said a few days ago you can get alot of luck in the fa cup, liverpool getting another home draw which makes it every round this season. So the luck could be with liverpool this season, can see them winning both cups this season.

Oh before my time but I thought you had won a few more!

Was a good weekend in general this week in the FA Cup. Watched 3 games and they were all good (Arsenal/Spurs/Liverpool) in their own ways.

He has already shown he is an exceptional talent (in my eyes anyway)... Spanish Football is hardly weak... So I would put it down to him...

I'm not doubting he has exceptional talent.

I'm doubting whether it's just talent that has him having such an exceptional scoring record. It makes him just about the best goal-scorer of all time in top-level footie, while I'm not sure if his talent is quite at that level.

The answer is probably 20% down to the fact the big two dominate but 80% down to his skill...

Other big time players aren't scoring as highly as him so you have to give a heavy amount of the credit down to him I feel...

the answer probably comes from a deeper analysis than just that I reckon. I don't know enough about Spanish footie to do that tho.

For example, it might be that he bangs in lots of goals against the very weakest teams in the Spanish league but his record against the better teams is pretty poor. Or one of the many other possibilities.

Unless you're very familiar with Spanish footie, you're no less out of your depth to answer my question than I am myself.

I would say ronaldo did the same in england, scored a load of goal against weaker teams but not alot against chelsea and liverpool.

There was a stat at the start of season he had scored about 5/6 times in 50 games v barcalona, liverpool and chelsea.

But I wouldnt moan if he came back to united.

Both, but more the former. A lot more. Exceptional skill. But the Spanish league is a shit standard outside of the top two. He did score 42 goals for Utd in one season though.

I'm not doubting he's got exceptional skill, but I'm trying to get at just how exceptional it is.

Those scoring stats put him at about the level of the best goal-scorer in the history of football. There's no doubting he's very very good, but is he that good - about the best there's ever been?

From what I know of him I wouldn't have rated him quite that highly, but perhaps I'm wrong.

So you are putting them in this order...

Prem

Serie A

La Liga

Bundesliga (guess)

I can't help but think there is some English arrogance creeping in here. Look at our top sides and the level of quality has been on the wain for a while. I don't think the likes of Stoke have particularly wonderful squads...

    • Sadly, the ticket map below screams rear 5 blocks not on sale or never have been on sale. Especially when you look at the blue blocks with rows of unsold tickets.   And I say all of this as a big fan of Muse.
    • Personally, I don't think there will be any changes to the queuing system in place for the 2025 sale.  GFL will be aware that true bots are a risk, but they may also see large collectives of organised folks running multiple devices, containers or profiles to get an advantage as bots themselves, and then struggle to know where to draw the line without penalising folks who are simply more on the ball than others.   They will also be acutely aware that engineering tech to close those gaps will cost, and therefore eat into the money they are able to pass to the Charities, without passing those costs on to punters in the ticket price, which they will be cautious of doing especially after a 2 year break and the inevitable media coverage that will get.   This may all be naive and overly trusting of me though.....
    • went to their album launch show last night at the george tavern. it was fantastic! absolutely roasting in there though
    • I got mine yesterday but they sent the wrong ticket link, so had to email Ticketmaster and get the right one.    As for predictions, hard to see who else could do the Pulp/Sting/Byrne slot other than the Cure, and since they did Isle of Wight they maybe have an FR deal (Sting did both). It’s also the Cure’s 50th next year so imagine they’ll be doing a bigger tour. Pet Shop Boys or Kylie maybe?   Wolf Alice would be a dream. It’ll probably all be men again though.
    • Probably a couple of months yet....last ticket sale announcement was 10th October 2024.
