Isnt losing 2-1 to basle more embarassing than losing 4-0 to milan! Whenever I see ajax, I cant help but thinking of their champions league winning team, one of my favourtie of all time.

Sorry i was unclear. I meant the recent ones but I'm not even sure they had it in cup competitions. I read on the Guardian site today that even the Invincibles went out of the cups fairly quickly in succession that season, which seems to happen with Arsenal a lot more than other sides. They also never retained the league.

Regardless, his recent sides certainly seem very delicate. One big blow and who knows what will happen. Last season was a melt down.

Yeah this is what i was really trying to get at. Nowadays they just fall apart during one month of the season where all their bids go up in flames. They went to pot mentally after Eduardo's injury for example. Its definitely since around 2006 they haven't really seemed like winning much by the time the second half the season comes around.

People say they got unlucky in 2006 but I actually think they got a bit lucky. When Lehmann was sent off Barca had a goal ruled out to red card him. They could have been one down very early on (with a man down as well possibly!). If that early goal had counted, with or without the Lehmann card I think they could have been in for a hiding!

Valencia out for a month, bad news. Although Young is back so he can cover but hes only half the player Valencia is.

Not that many league games in the next month so not crucial but he'll miss the Spurs game which is huge. Valencia running at Assou-Ekotto was presumably going to be one of the game plans.

Oh I don't mean its a shame that a Russian side wants to improve. I'd love for European leagues to become more competitive as a whole. By all means Anzhi should go for him. I just mean its a shame that Hiddink clearly moves for what he does. He has a pick of jobs across the world and his talents have been wasted on short stints who offer a quick pay check. Can't blame him, but I'd have preferred to see him take on a challenge somewhere.

Yep. I only realised the contradictions in what I wanted as I wrote my post. I'm just worried Anzhi and their unique artificial wealth won't really see the Russian league improve, but just them pull away and create a dull league with one good team.

I hope so! I'd love it if we got good coverage of the Bundesliga over here. It's currently relegated behind La Liga (ie. Barca+Real) and Serie A, despite being the most competitive league in Europe.

Is it just Bayern though? Have other teams got high income?
