Europe doesn't get anywhere near 20 spots, something like 13 in the last world cup I think. Asia / North America could have like 4 or 5 teams each too I think, but they have to playoff against Australiasia and South America. It's a shame Australasia only gets 0.5 spots (i.e. needs to beat the best runner up from Asia) but since Australia isn't a team there it seems a bit of a waste giving New Zealand a shoe-in every world cup. Africa only gets 5 too, but had 6 cause of hosting the last.

They seem to mix up the playoffs every qualification too - I remember Ireland had to beat Iran to qualify in 2002. It used to be South America vs Australia for that spot too, but has changed around now for whatever reason.

the fact that he'd just pushed Parker out of the way means he must have known he was there... you know, where his foot ended up. I agree it didn't look deliberate, but it's a ridiculously careless kick.... in the stomach! If he put as much into the kick as he was intending to put into kicking the ball, it must have hurt

Agreed, I think Parker getting motm was a lot to do with the fact that the media have a complete hard on for him at the moment. He comes across as a nice guy and a good professional, yesterday he tried hard and ran around a lot which I know us british fans love to see, but he didnt really create anything or show any skill. I think the media are trying to build him into the English Makelele, the thing is he isnt in Makeleles league and from memory Makelele didnt get given motm awards and individual honours like parker. I dont think there are many countries worldwide who would give a motm award for that performance, but then again who is to say those other countries are correct.

Pffft. No it doesn't. Was a lazy kick but was hardly vicious. Nobody thought it was a red at the time around me and very few did for a while after until Wayne Rooney got his gob on. It was a yellow card. It wasn't a Ballotelli style kick and it wasn't a very clever swing at the ball either. Ref did well tonight in general I thought mind.

As for mouthing off there were far worse than him out there tonight such as our own Andy Carroll. However none of those get the same scrutiny. His diving gets criticised but nobody was as bad as Bale out there tonight. Was bloody awful.

Love the fact everyone is obsessed over the little shit though. Gets everyone proper riled up. He's class.

We got dubbed "Fantastic on plastic" when we was very successful in the late 80's / early 90's... A lot of people put it down to the plastic pitch because you would get a different bounce. It was a lot of bollocks though because we was kicking arse home AND away (on grass)

Liverpool reject that version of events, and their defence of the person who you deem has been racist is based on them believing he's not been racist.

I think its unacceptable for Terry to continue as captain even if Capello wants him.

I think anyone who has been charged with a criminal offence should not be selected for England.

On the basis of what happened with Woodgate and Bowyer, then it's rather strange that Terry is still being allowed to be selected.

We have one of those pitches at Boundary Park.... The interwove kind. They are fantastic but cost hundreds of thousands to maintain. Can't help think the club regrets installing one now. It was down under the chairmanship of a total prick who almost sent the club under.

its bigger than Capello... Far bigger... He should of been involved in the decision process no doubt, but the decision lies with the FA board (or a disciplinary committee).

If you work for the NHS and you are accused of a serious crime and you face suspension. It wouldn't be your manager making the decision. It would go much further up the food chain.
