Because:

1) They are not good looking

2) They are not as successful

3) They are not married to Hollywood Stars

4) They are not as posh

5) They are Northern

Musically though, there's no reason. I'm not bothered about either, but both have a few great songs.

I'm not sure why anyone would go and see Coldplay. Horrible booking if we're honest. Can't remember if they've done anything at all since 2005. Not arsed about getting into a debate about whether they were ever any good, but Elbow have released Leaders of the Free World, Seldom Seen Kid, and Build a Rocket Boys.

So yeah, hardly seems to be any reason to have COldplay headlining, and certainly not when they could have gone with something new like Arcade Fire, or someone improved like Elbow.

I've never really understood the absue that's aimed at Coldplay.

Cracking first album and brilliant follow-up.

Always seem like pretty decent blokes and also make an effort with things like Oxfam, Fair Trade and Make Poverty History.

I know they're never going to appeal to the cool kids but I always find it odd that bands like The Strokes and Arcade Fire attract a level of praise that Coldplay don't (as has been mentioned they haev some excellent songs)

They put on a great set in 2005 (off the top of my head I couldn't tell you who the other headliners were that year) and I'm sure they will again.

Final point must be that ME seems to love them (they once got him out of a hole with the show he puts on for locals) and that's good enough for me.

Seem like decent blokes, Viva La Vida is a pretty good album. My mate is a massive fan and has promised that he would watch Elbow with me before hand. Have nothing against them having heard that they did their 05 set for nothing and gave all the money they got from that gig to charity. If I have a few before they come on and am in the right spirit then I'm sure it will be pretty good.

Saturday night is full of acts I'd like to see- Coldplay, Chemical Brothers, Big Boi and Flogging Molly. As I won't be seeing Elbow, I doubt I will be near the main stage when they are on so it will probably rule them out. I do quite like a handful of songs, which is usually enough to be entertained for the set, but the appeal of drunkely singing to Ms Jackson live will probably win me over

First saw them years ago in a small arts centre when they toured with a band called Terris, it was Terris I'd gone to see actually as had heard a single I really liked of theirs. There was barely 35-40 people in this place which holds 400. Coldplay hadn't even released Yellow their first single yet. I remember watching them, coming out and saying to my mate 'One day that band we've just seen will be the biggest band in Britain'. They just had song after song after song that was great. I stand by that now.

I probably won't see them as I love the Chems and have never seen them live but if I get bored I'll head straight over to the Pyramid. Coldplay have lost their way a bit IMO in the past few years, but there's no doubt in my mind that Chris Martin is a fine song writer and has written tunes alot of bands could only dream of. If you're in doubt shove on Parachutes tonight from start to finish and you'll remember why such a fuss was made over them at the beginning.

Including that time in the arts centre I've probably seen then 4 times at festivals and at Earls Court. They can hold a crowd very well and as I say, they have the hits. It's become cool to say you don't like Coldplay these days, I hate it when that happens, the same with U2. People just talking shit because they think it's trendy.

You could do alot, lot, worse than having Coldplay as a headliner.

Another one where most of the hate seems to be coming from people saying "all the cool kids hate them and "don't know they they get so much hate" as already said they a bit average and bit meh, theres nothing to dislike but theres nothing to really love about them either. But I am sure it be a half decent show for those who go see them, just nothing great from it.

I have no choice - I'm seeing Coldplay. I make most of the decisions about what we see at Glastonbury but every now and then I have to do as I'm told by my girlfriend.

I sat last night, listening to my "Glasto 2011 - The playlist (version 1)" (I'll probably end up with about 30 versions judging by last year) and "The Scientist" came on. As I closed my eyes and pictured being in the crowd at the Pyramid, singing together on that I felt a massive smile force it's way out of the corners of my mouth.

I think I might be really looking forward to seeing Coldplay now. They were one of the most amazing live bands around when they first came out and I haven't seen them for at least 7 years. If they have just a tenth of the magic they had in the early years, they'll be awesome.

I saw them in 2000 at the other stage, where they put out a great set, imo.

I'm leaning towards the chems as the gig for me saturday night, but my kids want to watch coldplay so I may well join them.

They are a band who I really used to like, but who have steadily declined in interest for me from the 3rd album onwards.

You can be guaranteed an enthusiastic and professionally delivered performance by musicians who are able to reproduce their studio work onstage without sounding forced, the crowd will have a good time and, yes, it will not be the headline set that everyone is talking about this year, but I say fair play to them, you KNOW they are pestering ME to play every year because they love the festival, you know, like we do.

    • That's the festival apart fay tickets in some form sold out.
    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.
