All three headliners were known last year around Christmas time as they were all up on the rumours page, although for a while MCR were thought to be subbing.

Not quite.

For last year I had all three headliners as headliners on 2nd December.

If anyone was thinking that MCR weren't headlining they were ignoring what I was saying, that they were definitely a headliner.

Nothing is being "held back" more than any other info.

I can only find out what I'm able to find out, thru people who know stuff. The people who know stuff don't necessarily know everything, they only know what they've heard.

I'm in contact with someone who has been told the other headliner (which gets to prove that it's nothing 'more secret' than anything else) - he's someone who has consistently given me good info over a number of years - but the problem is that he has no interest in R/L and so what he was told didn't enter his memory.

What he can remember is that the 3rd headliner is nothing special or unexpected for R/L, but that needs to viewed along the lines of it not being (say) U2 or the rolling stones which would be special and unexpected for R/L. It could be anything between (say) Green Day and (obviously not) MCR back again for a 2nd year - typical R/L bands.

For the R&L crowd Kasabian are bigger than Flo. No debate.

Flo would still sell the fest more tickets tho. Anyone who thinks different is being daft.

Kasabian are only bigger to the typical year-on-year ticket buyer - but they don't make up all the buyers in any year.

How many festivals has Flo headlined?

just the one big one in the UK - Latitude in 2010. Note that Latitude is a Melvin run festival!

That was on the basis of just her first album, with a crowd size of 40,000.

While her second album might not have made her as big as some might have expected, it's worth noting that she would have been high on every big fest's lists as a potential headliner for this year, and that she'd have likely to have been booked before that album was released.

The fact that she's yet to be announced for an English fest very strongly suggests that she's been booked on an exclusive basis for an English fest - which pretty much means either V or R/L. And as she's not been announced for V it's an easy conclusion to make that she's on the R/L bill, and very possibly as a headliner.

she isnt headlining hurricane or southside festival but she's playing, and she doesnt headline anywhere else in the world. Not a headlining act IMO.

How popular an act is in one country has no bearing on how big an act might be in another country.

She's booked as a headliner for Benicassim this summer - a festival that has a predominantly British crowd.

She might not be a headlining act in your eyes but that doesn't mean she'd prove a poor booking as a headliner for any major fest that booked her. She'd shift tickets better than very many acts - such as one of R/L's headliners in each of the last two years.

On a note regarding Florence. I was searching to find out something about the Bestival headliner a couple of weeks ago when I came across a thread on the DIS board where someone had stated that Florence was co-headlining with Kasabian. He'd said this at the start of February. I also noticed on the guys profile and his twitter that he'd been told the Reading headliners in December, just before Christmas. He hadn't said them on his profile.

I'm a bit wary of people saying they know this or that on headliners but kept this in my head because I thought something may turn out from it. When Neil said he'd heard something from someone saying the headliners were 'boring and unispired' or something along those lines, I thought about this guy's post because in his twitter message in December when he said he'd found out the headliners, he said something extremly similar. Florence not been at V has only made me think that she could be at Reading even more.

I've never claimed to have a source for the possibility of Flo being a headliner.

Her perhaps headlining is a deduction made from other available info. The fact that she's not announced for V very very strongly suggests to me that she'll be playing R/L.

Can you honestly believe after how much shit they took last year when MCR was announced to headline they would book Flo

that makes the chance of Flo stronger, not weaker. MCR was a band that should have appealed to the standard R/L demographic, but bombed.

How would booking a much more commercial act that can shift tickets better than most acts be a worse thing for the festival? (note: for the festival, not for some people who go to the festival and who want only rawk)

The fact is that there's many more poppy bands on every R/L bill than Flo is. Flo packed the tent to over-flowing in '09 - so she's hardly hated by the people who go.

She might not be headlining, she might not even be playing. But it would hardly be a poor move for the fest if she was.

Personally, I think she will play. Her not being announced for V kind of sealed that likelihood I think. I think she will sub though, although I shan't be too surprised if I see her at the top of the bill come March 12th.

(Hopefully we will know before then who the 3rd is!)

If she plays I'll just go and watch someone else, simple.

I'm not sure she is headlining but playing seems pretty likely, she will still be touring the UK when the announcement is made which isn't the norm for R&L headliners and plenty of subs haven't done other English/UK fests in the same year and she seems willing not to headline with supporting Snow Patrol even tho she's arguably bigger.

I said she was unlikely a while back when I was pretty sure she was playing V. Sionce it's now looking unlikely that she's playing V then it looks likjely she's at Reading.

I said something like that about Mumfords, tho after more consideration it's quite possible that info can't be trusted as correct because all that was said to me doesn't add up.
