sept 18, 1993 - Madison Square Garden - NY Yankees v. Boston Red Sox baseball game at Yankee Stadium in the afternoon (that's sort of like Man Utd-Liverpool), and then a subway ride down to the Garden to get tix on the street for the Dead at night.

Boy am I going off on a tangent!!!! I LOVE baseball and I support the Red Sox (years of suffering but it's all come good). Man Utd v Liverpool just doesn't do justice to Red Sox v Yankees - it is the biggest rivalry in anything in the US (They would therefore tell you "The World"!!!).

Just looked up the boxscore - I would've needed a great gig after that travesty - still, at least you saw big Mo Vaughn go yard!

5.Shed Seven - The After Dark, Reading - 1994ish - I'll explain this one (as quickly as I can) as it probably seems a bit weird to lots of you. Two months earlier I'd seen Compulsion supported by Shed Seven at the same venue. They hadn't yet released anything at all and we didn't know who they were. Rick came over to me and my mate and borrowed 50p off him to get some fags. When we went to see them at the later gig we found him (the club had no real backstage area so all the bands that played there had to mingle with everyone else - other bands to have played there include Nirvana, Radiohead, Run DMC and Roachford(!!!)) and asked for the 50p. He gave us a quid and told us to tell security we were with him at the end of the gig. The gig was great (the support band were OK but they had this one killer tune (which we now know to be "Caught By The Fuzz") which we loved) and at the end of the gig we told security we were with Rick (and so were the two girls we were trying to pull). Astonishingly they said he'd mentioned it and we didn't have to go yet. We then spent a couple of hours getting rat-arsed with both bands while the two drummers played David Essex records from the DJ booth. By about 2am I was lying down in the road outside with Rick, playing chicken with taxis. I was 15.

Awesome memories in this thread - particularly the stuff about the 'Dead. Jesus christ but I'm envious lads. I named my daughter after a GD song 10 weeks ago. I am obsessed!

As regards the passing of Jerry, Martin... Some kind of cosmic spirit died in the US when he toddled off... the world changed. I loved hearing CSN play tribute to him in 2009. No question but he would have loved Glasto - and it him.

Paul - some of the recent Further sets (particularly last nights near tribute to Bear Owsley) have been marvellous. They played Outside Lands last year and the Mrs not been preggers we would have been there. Such a shame Ireland has never featured on their tour...

This bootleg holds a special place in my heart, as I was playing this at work back in 1997, and this young summer intern who had just started with us stopped by my desk and said "ooh, grateful dead! and scarlet begonias...one of my favorites"...we were a couple within weeks and got married in 2006.
