Doesn't matter to me, the moment I heard the Hop Farm line up I ordered a ticket. Same weekend I'm seeing Pulp at Wireless. Should be interesting...

But I really can't see him playing Reading. I'd be more than happy to see him twice, but I'm going to be cynical and say I can't see a place for him. Only headlining the NME seems right. He's without a doubt big enough to sub, but who would he sub to, with such weak headliners?

Unless they gave him a slot similar to Ian Brown's in 2009

the same way when radiohead headlined, and lots of people left to go on other stages.

do you only want headliners that are flavour of the month jump? or artists who deserve it, with great back catalogues? people like mcr, muse, strokes, arcade fire shouldnt be headlining it should be legends like gnr, dylan, neil young, the cure, depeche mode, u2 etc etc with proper back catalogues.

I'm not sure how much it's to do with want either, there has to be an element of realism. The Cure are not going to headline R&L, no matter how much they should. Same with Depeche Mode or Dylan. GNR and Neil Young have, U2 are too big for R&L.

Just because a band has only realesed two or three albums doesn't mean they can't be a great headliner. Arcade Fire were spectacular last year, Nirvana had only released two albums when they headlined and that's arguably the most famous Reading performance ever.

I'm not interested in legends just for the sake of legends, the day Paul McCartney headlines R&L will be a much sadder day than when MCR do.

Morrissey could easily headline the NME stage, just like the Manics did a few years ago. They're both acts with a strong, loyal cult following who have marked their place in music history, and nowadays play academy sized venues.

Trouble with The Cure is anybody who wants them to headline agrees with you- they would be the ultimate R&L headliner. Everybody else wouldn't give a shit. There's not much of a middle ground.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
