Glastonbury Alternatives

Sorry for yet another 'Glastonbury Alternatives' thread - I am not looking for info on the festivals as such (I can find that elsewhere).

My situation is that I didn't get a ticket and for personal reasons, I can only spend the time and money on one festival next summer. Likewise, I can't just go at the drop of a hat - I do need to plan it quite far in advance where possible due to work commitments.

I am planning on getting a ticket in the re-sales however, would be stupid to put all my eggs in one basket. To give me an idea of my options (ie. whether to hold out for Glasto or take a punt at another one this year), I would be very grateful for an indication of when the tickets tend to sell out on a number of UK and Euro festivals. I know that some will always sell out on T day and others will always vary due to lineup and multiple other reasons, but just what has happend in recent years will be great. To give an idea of what I fancy I have started a list below.

I hope this is of use to others too. J

Bestival

Isle of Wight

The Green Man

Beautiful Days

Lowlands

Rock Ness

Benicasim

Sziget

Sonsiphere

Guilfest

Roskilde

The WickermanDownload

We went to Solfest as well as Glastonbury this year and we loved it. There were definitely tickets available right up to the Thursday when we got there

The most beautiful setting, great choice of music and stages, the ability to take any food and drink into the arena - a variety of camping options from quiet to noisy, families etc., all in all a great atmosphere for all ages and very well organised.

We really hope to go again next year - and I am still hoping we manage to get a ticket for Glastonbury as well as I can't imagine not going next year.

i quite fancy kendal calling with the wife and bairn, i know you can pay an extra tenner and go down on thursday, they have a family field where you can park your car next to your tent pitch, soubds ideal to me. tickets were under 90 quid each and under 12's went for free. Just missed out last year where the doves and the coral were headlining. wont make same mistake twice !

You could park next to your tent at Solfest too - which was great - meant we could take loads of food and drink and not worry about having to carry it.

They also do a Thursday night camping option which cost only £10 per vehicle - this was great as it mean't we had the whole of Friday free. For £89 a ticket it was a bargain festival

The news says Rockness tix are going on Early Bird on the 28th October. Worth a look in I reckon.

From your list, I'd say Beautiful Days is the most like Glastonbury in terms of atmosphere, friendliness and no arena. It's good value and good fun. It's small, but perfectly formed :) I've only been once, in 2009, but intend to go again - hopefully this year. As has been said, it sells slowly, but does tend to sell out.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
