Here's a word to float: Drought.

Worth praying for? I have been doing some research into weather gods (mostly in my head, it should be mentioned) and at present I am favouring one called Barry, who lives in a flat in chelmsford with 2 chickens and a rat.

Think about the possibilities...hard, baked ground and plenty of lovely dust.

So basically from here on out I'll be sacrificing one can of cherry coke per day to Barry, that he might answer my prayer of a drought, lasting through til after the festival, after which it would be really convenient if it could break and piss down on wimbledon.

If anyone's interested, you should have a look at the GFS charts. On select chart type pick HGT500hPa + SLP for the left chart and UK precipitation for the right hand chart. Then use the arrow buttons to cycle through the times. This gives a good idea of the link between pressure and rainfall. The fronts spin around the low pressure (fronts cause air to rise, hence clouds, hence rain).

You can also see what's worrying us. The persistent blocking high over Greenland is causing the low pressure systems (which will head East) to go on a more southerly path than normal. Rather than heading North of Scotland, they are hitting Wales. We need that high to go. If not then it's alternate wet and dry and we can only hope to get the dry bit on the main days (to be fair, that is what's predicted now, but there's no way you can spot the dry days this far out).

While it is true to say that you cannot predict weather for more than 3 days and we have no idea what the weather will be on 25/06 at 12:00, if that high pressure over Greenland remains there will be rain at some point during the festival.

Normal caveatsapply:

1) I know a bit about weather, not a lot about weather

2) You can't predict the weather with any accuracy for more than three days

3) Based on Point 1, Point 2 might be incorrect

Ahhhh i missed the weather thread. Had stayed away from efest this year because i get over-excited and possibly fired for permanently lurking.

Nothing like a bit of crazy clairvoyance, anxiety and iceland bashing! :-)

A practical way to change the weather might be to paint Greenland black. This would cause it to absorb the sun's rays. This would cause it to heat up and would definitely do something to the weather. It would probably also cause the ice to melt and result in sea level rises. It might also cause the gulf stream to stop.

Anyone claiming that they know exactly what would happen is lying. It's all speculation, but something would happen. Might be good for Glastonbury, might be bad for Glastonbury, almost certainly won't improve the long term prospects for humans living in Northern Europe, but we've got 2012 off so maybe we can fix it then?

When I was onroute to Boston, there was an American couple in front of me on the plane, who where looking out of the window, the Air Hostess passed, they asked what country was it they could see Air Hostess replies Greenland, I beleive I'll check for you, air hostess then dissapears, American Couple start saying sounds about right it doesn't look nice, wouldn't like to live there etc. Air hostess then returns informs them it is in actual fact New foundland, The Americans then shut up and I bust out laughing

I think you may of had to be there, but it was funny!!!

Since then I've liked Greenland, until this high has got in the way

Blue lines are bad and red lines are good, right?

On that there are blue lines in southern britain up until Monday 20th, from then on throughout the festival the red lines push the blue lines away...?

That means we're in for a scorcher, right?

BLUE=BAD RED=GOOD
