I've been following a similar thread on the questions forum, and on there a user was given different data by an individual at See as is on the Internet.

Do they have two different databases? Surely not?

They only have one database (now).

I suspect that what the person on the phone did was add three years to the date he registered (which is part of what they see on their screen I was told this morning) and then think "well, it's over three years, so it must have expired".

The relevant point here is that like so many people who work in call centres, what they know about what's going on is very limited, and often a long way from the situation in reality.

(* I'm not having a go at the individuals - any fault is down to what their bosses choose [or not] to tell them)

I've experienced something quite similar today. The Inland Revenue had raised £7k worth of fines against my company, which I was told on the phone could only be struck off if I wrote a letter to appeal them. A quick trip to the tax office and a chat with the relevant person (which I was told when I walked thru the door just couldn't happen ) and they've been wiped.

I reregistered last week because mine expired in 2010, and apparently I now have two different numbers, one expiring in 2011, the other in 2013.
