Another excellent time , it gets better every year.

Thought I would post a few comments up !

Why is the Leeds Radio1/NME Stage always better than the JP Stage at Glasto ? , just seem to get a better vibe.

Leeds this year had separate Male and Female toilets , which pleased my partner and females in our group , apparently the toilets in the female section were always really clean , not sure Glasto could do that , but it was a nice touch.

We only heard one nitros balloon all festival , as against one every 5 seconds at the stone circle !!!

Is still ain't close to Glasto but it gets better every year , and still free car parking !!! , which is

quite rare these days !

I think the JP suffers for being out of the way a bit. I've never really been in it when its been packed, something which is always important to create a good atmosphere in a tent. Its lightings not always great either, always seems a bit drab in there

Fair point about the JP, tbh I've never seen a band there before.

Its the crowd at Leeds that I cannot stand, too many over excited teenagers.... I mean fair play to them... they're the future and probably hate being at a festival with a moaning old bastard like me just as much.... but christ they do my head in....

never been to leeds so i can't comment on their tent, but i spent a lot of time in the JP on friday (i liked the line up)the vibe and atmosphere were brilliant and for Mumford and Sons the place was jumping, the old dude who was presenting said there were a lot more people in there from the start than in previous years (probably getting out of the sun) but made it good for me.

Same arguement as always, different festival different vibe,atmosphere etc etc

Would we all want festivals to be clones of each other with the same line ups, soon get boring.

You also have to factor in that the JP stage is Glasto's forth stage after the Pyramid, Other and then West Holts. Radio1/NME is Leeds second stage.

I've never been to Glastonbury, but this year at Leeds there were terrible crowd crush problems especially after Enter Shikari and Pendulum played, I stuck around for Shikari but there was no way I was missing Arcade Fire...but even heading out from the least busy side of the tent, across to the main stage was hell, people thought it would be fantastic to just shove from the back. A couple of harsh words along the lines of "if you think shoving me will get you any further than a black eye then you'd be wrong" calmed them down a bit, and gave me a giggle, though!

The toilets were definitely better this year at Leeds, though I've still seen a few people on the Leeds forums complaining that they were disgusting...It's a festival, you will never get home comfort style toilets...

Agree about the mentality of most Leeds Festival attendees though, this year was the first year I actually looked at the majority of people and could think of nothing more than how immature they were. Ah well, I still had a fantastic fest despite my moaning.

I last went to Leeds in 2009 for the day to watch Radiohead, and I had a far better time than staying for the weekend like I had done in 2008 and 2007. Since I started going to Glastonbury in 07 I just find other festivals a little boring when the main events are over, but a day at Leeds is just enough I think.

With regards to the Radio 1/NME tent I remember watching Seasick Steve there (I think) when it was baking hot outside, and I think the shade helps chill people out at Leeds, so there was a nice relaxing vibe. The last band I saw at JP was British Sea Power a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed the set but not half as much as the group in front of us did, and for this the atmosphere was really fun and friendly. I guess it depends who you see.

It was good this year, especially line up wise but there is nothing there I would take for Glastonbury, aprt from free parking but I don't drive.

I would agree with you. We were camped facing the Other Stage, so we had to go through the Dance Village in order to get to the John Peel Stage, which seemed, for all intents and purposes, a bit of an outpost. We only went once (Wild Beasts), and although I thought the sound was very good in there, I knew that it was probably going to be my one and only visit of the festival.

Turned out it was.

IMHO. I think the John Peel Stage needs a better line up if it's going to pack out. Something like the same sort of R&L's NME stage got or some of T in the Parks King Tut's line up.

Also, I know I may get shot down for this, I think The Flaming Lips should have headlined The John Peel stage. They should have got some other big act to headline the other stage on Friday.

because it's Leeds' second stage, but only Glasto's 5th or 6th stage?

Just a thought like.

Anyway, either stage is best avoided.

I've not been to Leeds, but the NME/R1 tent at Reading is defo bigger than the tent used for the JP.

JP comes after those three, plus The Park, and Acoustic.

OK, perhaps they're not quite "home comfort", but my own bog when I've been living by myself was rarely as clean as some of the always-spotless portaloos I've used at some fests this year.

I think that over the past few years the type of music that is on in the new bands/John Peel tent has become a lot more popular, hence the increase in the size of it. The demographic of this increase also seems to have changed a fair bit. At 36 I'm getting on a bit, but when I was younger, your typical indie fan (I'd class myself as one of these, and class the John Peel tent as a tent appealing to this type of person) was a bit of an outsider, however nowadays it's a lot more mainstream.

I think that's where the change has been, the majority of people there are a lot younger, and I'm a lot older!!! I loved the new bands tent ten years ago, but hardly go near it nowadays.

At for example T in the Park, the toilets in the arena are always spotless as opposed to the ones in the campsite which are frankly a health hazard!

Does that say more about your house keeping?

I was very careful with the wording I used - my missus wouldn't be pleased if what I'd posted reflected on her housekeeping.

The toilets at Beautiful Days were almost always in beautiful condition. I think there was only one Turdis which I found in an unusable condition all weekend, and they seemed to be cleaning them every couple of hours.

You found one not usable? In that case they weren't a patch on the ALWAYS completely spotless bogs at WOMAD.

The campsite toilets at T are horrific.

I don't actually know how they get away with that.
