just having had a google, there's a press conf at 1pm at Anfield today. It's either to announce Woy as gone, or he'll be doing the standard pre-match press conf for Sunday and so will in charge for Sunday.

Most interestingly, it appears that Dalglish is not out of the country until next week, which has been reported as the case by many.

I have never understood the media/fan response to beckham. I dont think he is as useless as some people think but think many people let the hype surrounding him cloud there judgement. I have heard him called world class a couple of times today already!

In my view he adds nothing to spurs. He hasnt stood out as being a top player in the MLS, so i cant see him having a great effect on the pitch at white hart lane. People talk about his ability to take set pieces but I suspect bale and vdv record from set pieces over the last couple of years is far better. I always thought this statement that he was the best free kick and corner taker in the world was a big exageration anyway, especially when you noticed most of the people saying it tended to watch 90% english based football. I have also heard today he is the best trainer in the world, love to see the research to prove this!

While beckham the man will not be a disruptive influence in the dressing room, I think the circus that comes with him could disrupt what seems like a great team spirit.

not emile heskey? i know he is slated by the fans mostly, but he's had a lucky career!

The difference is heskey has never had the media loving that beckham has had. He is the one player that i can think of in my time in football, that the media loved so much that rather than saying he excelled at a certain attribute of the game, he had to be defined "best in the world".

Dead balls, crossing, work rate, shooting. His assist rate at Utd was scary at one stage. Averaged over 10 goals a season too when Utd we’re playing with a “striker” system, the most commited England player of his generation (something that’s clearly absent) and scored some very important goals for club and country. Only overrated because hes a total media whore. If he kept out of the limelight like Scholes people would be creaming their bags over him.

That is the type of comment that I always have a problem with. He cant nust be called committed like other players, he has to be given the tag as most commited in the world or most commited of the generation. How do you compare all the players commitment, there are undoubtedly lower profile players who have equal commitment but dont make as good headlines.

As for his quality, at his prime he wasa very good player although in my opinion not as good as scholes and defintiely not giggs. Also the likes of giggs and scholes would have torn it up in mls, while from reports I have heard beckham has not been one of the best players.

I think if someone had the stats for his dead ball scoring record for club and country it would show he didnt score as much as you would expect from "the best in the world". I rememeber a few years ago someone used the phrase and he hadnt scored one for over ayear.

we're replying to your 'english footballer' quote, not england player. if you're judging on only appearances for england, that lampard doesn't sound all that great either.

Beckham was a winger who lacked both pace and the skill to beat people. Slighlty bizarre attributes for a winger. But he scored a craking free kick against the greeks, and fluked a penalty against the argies, so I forgive him

So you have no answer to the fact that his goal scoring record at international level is abysmal. Nor do you care he could do nothing other than stand on his left foot? You aren't bothered by the fact the he had neither the pace of the trickery to beat an opposing left back?

It's ok though because he ran around a lot and could take a good free kick...

if it's abysmal, it's abysmal, nothing i can say to that. and people who 'stand on their left (or right) foot' are my absolute pet hate.

but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was a great player. i'm sure he's not alone in a winger having a poor international scoring record from open play.
