Blink 182

Out of the years I've been to Reading (05, 08, 09 & soon to be 10) I've gotta say...

Blink 182 = BEST MAIN STAGE HEADLINER EVER! I meen, Maiden in 05 was good, Metallica in 08 was good... but this will dick all over that. You can take all your Arcade Fires, your Arctic Monkeys & your Radioheads & place them neatly in a pile before dropping trousers & taking a nice steamy dump on them.

I would slightly disagree with the kaiser chiefs comparison. Kaisers have had more hits than blink 182 in the uk but also played a shorter set which means less time for filler that your casual fan may not know. I know many have disagreed with me on here, however i maintain your average festival fan will only know about 5/6 blink 182 songs, considering their songs are quite short and the festival set is 90 minutes long that leaves a lot of time to play album tracks not as familiar to those casual fans drinking a beer at the back.

I'm still sitting on the shelf in regards to Blink.

They were never perfect, but do have a few songs that you would recognise straight away and probally jump around to after a few beers.

90 minute set, I'm not sure if they can hold the crowd for that long, but hope they can.

Kaiser chiefs 7 top 20 singles, 5 of which were top 10

blink 182 5 top 20 singles, 2 of which were top 10

Blink 182 1 top 5 album

kaisers 3 top 2 albums

Kaisers have had far more commercial success in the uk than blink 182. An average festival goer will know more of their songs than blink 182, i think thats pretty indisputable.

I disagree, I think if you asked reading festival goers to name 3 songs by each band, there would be more that could do it for kaiser chiefs. Actually now I think about it the kaiser chief comparison holds in my opinion. I dont have anything against blink 182 headlining but I actually think (like kiaser chiefs) a 60 minute set would be more entertaining to your average festival goer than 90 minutes.

It depends what you're looking for, I suppose.

To me, a flawless album is 'Loveless' by My Bloody Valentine. 'Psychocandy' by The Jesus and Mary Chain is another. Stone Roses' debut is another. OK Computer, Surfer Rosa, Nevermind...

Enema of the State? Hmmmm... not really. It's all subjective, of course, but I think if you're going to give that album as much praise as you do then you need a similar comparative measure like, say, 'Americana' by The Offspring or 'Dookie' by Green Day; all of which pretty much offer the same 'idea' - like, accessible Punk Rock. I can't stand any of them personally - are they all flawless? As pop albums, yes. As punk albums, no. A flawless album would be one that is both flawless as a pop album and flawless as a Punk album... and that, to me, is 'London Calling' by The Clash.

Saturday on the mainstage, at Leeds, is a day I will avoid happily.

Despite it being pointed out numerous times, people still seem to be confused about whether Blink are a good band or a punk band. Of course they're not the same style as the clash, but so what? I'm relatively certain there are still bands who are good that aren't the clash. The music industry wouldn't do well if the clash was the only band on offer. Treat pop-punk as a genre in its own right and enjoy what I believe will be the best show this band has ever played.

We shall have to agree to disagree then :)

As i still believe the reading crowd will know more Blink songs than Kaiser Chief songs.

Kaiser Chiefs may have had more top ten singles but a whole load of reading goers will have had some blink albums on repeat througout their teenage years.

To be honest, I don't really care.

The people who listen to Green Day tend to listen because they feel they can relate to the songs and lyrics Billie Joe Armstrong writes, which is great (I suppose), but after 40 million+ albums sold over the course his and Green Day's career, do you really think that he can stand on a mountain of dollar bills and relate to you?

I agree to some extent, there was a time when green day were releasing some of the best pop music of recent years. Im not sure if recent mediocrity is due to losing their passion or they have just run out of idea. I have recently sensed a vibe of arrognance from the band so maybe your right,

i think even if people can't name many blink songs, if you watched the full set, you'd be surprised at how many songs you recognise.

they won't get a massive crowd. but i think they will have a big enough fanbase at leeds/reading to justify their place as headliners.

How about the libertines??? They are going against crystal castles and cancer bats, hardly much competition. Also in terms of the headliners I think guns and roses will get the biggest crowd. Any undecided person will see them. Klaxons have had more commercial success than lcd sounsystem.

Its definately gonna be AF that gets the least biggest crowd, which is understandable as most people will know more from blink and G n R, add to the fact pendulum will be a huge draw.

I think Blink 182 would have got a massive crowd anyway even if they were up against someone big. I mean with GnR being against LCD sound system and alk 3 there isnt much against them either it would have been more sensible to put pendulum on the GnR night I think.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
