You're right, there are actually quite a few I would have loved to have seen.

As well as those, add Willie Nelson, Slash, The National and Jackson Browne (x2) (and also U2, if... well y'know...) and I'd have been quite happy going.

It was Pearl Jam that persuaded me though - never seen them, always wanted to!

i think it's a silent majority thing - they seem one of a few bands that it's simply not acceptable to not like.. i find their albums patchy and their songs weak and bit of a novelty that wears thin quickly....i don't think i'm normal though

Think about it, there was a 24-hour gap between U2 pulling out and Gorillaz coming in. It's not a swap. you could be devastated at one and still delighted at the other.

A very big thanks to Damon for taking this up at a month's notice! I'm very chuffed with Gorillaz headlining and think that the idoits moaning about this should bugger off

Didn't look like you'd thought about it though - you said people 'celebrated' U2 pulling out. I know there were some idiots but most people, myself included, were pretty devastated and recognised it as a disaster for the festival.

24 hours later and one of the best collaborative acts of recent years are announced there's no reason at all not to be ecstatic if you're into the Gorillaz. I appreciate you personally might not like them but that's kind of irrelevant in the grand scheme.

And if you take away the idiots celebrating the injury then none of what I've described above is anything like that thread about Florence - I'm sorry I just don't see any equivalence at all to the music discussion.

i think this is brilliant news.

what the hell are people moaning for? i wouldn't be surprised if some of you expect eavis to bring back george harrison and john lennon to reform the beatles for next year.

at such short notice i think michael has brought in a world class contemporary act who a lot of people will be chuffed with.

I know a lot of people who don't like the flaming lips. Mostly due to Wayne's voice. And some because they think it's all a bit too hippyish. I think you either love them and really get what they are all about, or you don't. I dont know many people who have seen them live that didnt enjoy it though.

It would have been great to see them headline though, I would have loved to have seen what the masses who watch on BBC2 would have made of them. From U2 to Flaming Lips would have been a wonderfully bizarre turnaround.

Yeah maybe I came across a bit aggressive and apologies if that's the case.

I just think it's the internet so there are going to be idiots saying everything from "hell yeah bono's got a serious injury" to various offensive stuff I won't repeat about Florence.

The main things is I was just trying to make the point that the people who are celebrating this latest development were not necessarily celebrating U2's withdrawal.

Gutted that U2 have had to pull out and pretty disappointed in the replacement.

For me U2 would have been fantastic playing on the Pyramid and I was hoping for something better than Gorrilaz but it's a done deal now so no point in being too down. This time in 4 weeks I'll be at my fave festival and I'll find something else on the Friday night

and i'm going to Bestival this year as well, so i get to see both the lips and the good ship Gorrilaz.

However i feel for U2 fans, its a bit of a kick in the teeth, but this is not glasto's or Gorrilaz's fault, so don't take this out on either or them

And if U2 fans are so small minded that they don't got to glasto, then i'm pretty happy your not coming either way.

Yesterday I was gutted that U2 had cancelled but the Gorillaz news today has almost made up for it.

I wasn't really into the Gorillaz till they recently visited my home town on a small 'rehersal' tour. I was blown away by them and now play their Plastic Beach album all the time. IMO it's the best album of the year so far.

When I saw them they had no special guests or graphics but with the full set up at Glasto it will be immense.

It's irrelevant to me, as I'll either lose track of time altogether or watch the Flaming Lips. It's a good booking considering the short notice though.
