Ticket dialema

hi everyone

just looking for a bit of advice

there is a large group of us going to glasto this year and more who really want to go, but have missed out in resale/didnt have the money etc.

now one of my mates with a ticket has decided he cant afford to go (whatever, g/f is a control freak more like)

leaving an unused paid for uncancellable ticket (you know where this is going dont you)

if i remember rightly last year they hardley even looked and photo on ticket was tiny

basically has anyone ever tried to gain entry with somebody elses ticket, did it work, if so any hints or tips would be much appreciated, ie grow a beard, wear fancy dress change apperance ect

or would yous say its totally not worth the risk as we are travelling 300 miles

i no its naughty but it seems like such a waste, and ticket as i have said before is fully paid for. any help appreciated thanks

depends upon a, how mush one mate looks like the other, b, how arsed the person is checking it a c, whether he's prepared to travel 300 miles and maybe have to go home.

Of course if he doesn't get in first time there's nothing to stop him turning around and trying another gate or a bit later.

If it was me I'd risk it.

My friend, a skinny, small guy was in a similar dilemma last year. As he had no ticket and was very depressed I mentioned that my cousin (a big, fat beardy fellow) had a ticket that he could no longer use. To cut a long story shut my friend got this ticket and used it, just walked straight in like anybody else, admittedly however my cousin did kindly give it to him for free so the risk was not as large.

From my own experience, using other people's railcards, bus passes etc I find people rarely scrutinise pictures.

If he takes a few other things, such as the ticket owner's bank card etc, to 'prove' he is the person in question, it could improve his odds.

I think the risk is based on the distance to travel and time taken to travel.

For example if I lived in Inverness I certainly would not risk it (552 miles), however if I lived in Taunton (28 miles) then theres nothing to lose

I'd say look at the worse case scenario and if you can handle that give it a go....I mean if the worst case was hitching a ride home I'd say maybe not, if it just meant going back to the train station then go for it!

hit and miss - i've had a person checking my ticket for over 15-20 secs and seriously scrutinising it (looked like they thought it was a fake!!), and then other times almost ignored

Tell him to wear fancy dress, something over his face that would be a real ball ache to take off, they'll most likely have a chuckle and let him in. Don't forget his wrists will still need to be uncovered though so he can get his wristband. Having the other guy's passport on him would be a smooth move too. That way if they pull him to one side and make him take off the costume, then claim it's fake, he's seemingly got evidence to the contrary. A nice bit of mock outrage would be good here too, I mean this over zealous ticket arsehole has pulled you over, made you put your stuff down and take your costume off, and now he's trying to claim you have a fake ticket even though you have your passport as proof!

from wahts yous have said, it does happened and ppl havve been sucessful before

i suppose we could watch the person checking our tickets 1st see how strict they seem (find the person that doesnt really seem to check that much)

think he gonna go for it anyway

don't cover your face with a mask or anything dodgy like that

you could wear a bit of face paint tho; world cup and all that

You could also go in drag and wear some lovely laydees makeup; look embarrassed (like you wouldnt be) they'd never know, go under the cover of darkness too

Fingers crossed for your friend.

We met a couple last year who had ebay'd their tickets.

They got rejected twice, third time walked through on their mobiles pretending to be on important calls.

Basically, there must be 200 tickets 'rippers', one of them isn't gonna check your ticket.

We had a similar situation 2 years ago..... we took utility bill of the original ticket holder but Im fairly certain that they didnt need ask for it he just walked right thru.... best to just look for someone who doesnt seem to be checking the tickets that much..... Most of the people on the gates are festival goers anyways. I would definitely risk it

Try to get in at the busy times when the ticket checkers are just trying to get you in as quickly as possible and aren't looking that closely - however i did see a bloke last year being sent off to a nearby portacabin to have his details checked..

If you’re going down the fancy dress route I recon England face paint might be your best bet … as long as you’re not Scottish! You’d never get away with that. Also make sure your mate isn’t the only one dolled up, that would be suspicious.

You could try and brazen it out … he could march up to the boss ripper and demand to know why he's got a picture of some stranger on his ticket! He'd have to have bills and bank cards to prove he's the person named on the ticket; someone must have made a mistake in the photo dept … sheesh!

Basically risk it and hope.

It's clearly going to be a worry and you'll have a very nervous trip to Pilton. Once your mate is through the gate he'll feel great.

I think the England facepaint idea is a really good one, make sure a group of you do it.

Utility bill with ticket holders name on will also help.

I've used the same picture since they came in and look fairly different but have never had an issue.

To the OP.....personally I would risk it! Whts the worst that would happen? He hasn't got a ticket anyway and short of a competition based miricle he isn't going to get to go?

I went in no probs last year and the ticket was barely looked at but in 2008 I had to taked off my sunglasses, hat etc and was scrutinised for what felt like forever!

I suppose it depends how busy they are at the time as well, so maybe try to leave it until there are loads of people going through?
