Talk of football hooliganism at Glastonbury is crazy. The atmosphere in 2004 was great and it never felt like there could be trouble. I think it was actually the largest crowd I have seen at the Pyramid stage, more than for Bowie. The game will need to be shown to prevent the thousands from leaving the site and it will need to be shown somewhere larger than the cinema field for fear of over crowding. I understand that not everyone likes football, but it's not like the whole festival will stop, there will be plenty of music going on elsewhere. I hate U2 for example, but I'm not complaining that they're taking up two hours of the Pyramid stage, i'll just go see something else.

They are considering having the game in a separate field outside the perimeter with big screens. This would mean people can get on with the music etc and those who want to watch can go to a big area specifically for the game without everyone streaming out into the local villages or overwhelming the cinema field (if it is there). I don't think this is decided on yet but seems a good option to me.

Absolutely spot on. I can't believe some of the comments I'm seeing on here.

Talk of losing the reputation of the festival by showing an England game is beyond short-sighted and reeks of someone who has read too many articles in this countries fine Broadsheets.

The football has to be shown, there will be a lot more trouble if it is not, what with people who don't look on the internet, just expect to turn up at said location and see the match - plus the exodus of people leaving site to find a pub for the game will cause a major problem with the locals - more so than any potential “conflicts” - which will probably occur more because of a copious amount of Brother's cider / lager consumption rather than football, I don't see much call for that to be banned!

I've seen 1000's of games in this country as well as around Europe and in my opinion you meet many a fine individual following the beautiful game, just as many as you can by going to a music festival.

An England second round World Cup game can come around every four years at best, Glastonbury is every year, I'm sorry but people who say "it's just a game" and “you are at a music festival FFS” should turn the conversation around and think about something you'd see every four years at best and think just how easily you'd give that up.

I see the East Dance tent as absolute tripe but I'll get on with the rest of my weekend and go somewhere else, surely others can do the same if it turns out Football might be on one stage for two hours over a whole weekend.
