That's very true unfortunately. MB would be very stupid not to have at least one back up headliner lined up. If both GnR and The Libertines are booked, they are two of the riskiest headliner bookings in a while. If they both pull it off, it'll be great for acts and festival. If not, i dread to think.

If they do play, (and I seriously hope they do) then a slot at Glasto, surprise or not has to be a shoe-in. Both Pete and Carl love the place!

But I haven't stopped smiling since I read the reading thread. I can see why some of you hate them, but they are the most influential band in my life. Each to their own though!

Sorry. I'm being honest. Although I rarely listen to them now I really loved them.

Gene on the other hand are on constant rotation for me. "Sick, Sober, Sorry", for example, is an absolute slice of genius and yet they threw it away as a b-side. "Olympian" live at Reading Festival headlining the Melody Maker Tent (in, I think, 1995) with gold confetti cascading down from the rafters and Martin Rossiter's voice soaring above the heads of a small group of true devotees (about 98% of the festival, including all of my mates, were watching Smashing Pumpkins) is STILL my favourite ever festival moment.

I know most people will disagree and call me names or will assume that my hearing aid's batteries never charge fully but Gene were and are very special to me. I'd love to be able to share it with some of the doubters one more time because I am convinced that they would change most people's opinions. They were an epic live act.

Oh the scenester carnage if this was to happen. There'd be skinny jeans and posh kids dressed in quirky ways all over the show. And they'll be calling them "Peter" and "Carlos" as though they bloody know them.

Pete Doherty is just a smackhead rat. Like all happy addicts, he'd willingly do whatever it takes to get his fix regardless of the consequences.

I love The Libertines on record, but I couldn't be arsed with the clichéd, obvious, so-horrendously-"London*-NME"-music-scene performance and surrounding areas.

And if Peter and Carlos were as talented as they try to get people to believe, they would have been able to produce more than Clash b-sides together followed by "4 out of 10" albums apart.

*Not a jibe at London and Londoners, you just know the folk I mean.

PARTICULARLY when there are so many other stages where he won't be playing. they'll all just be crawling with drug-addled skinny trousers trilby wearing teens, who'll spend half their time posing for photos to pout on myface and are so off it they keep asking where pete is, even though they're at the wrong stage.

Just because they are one of the first indie landfill acts does NOT mean that everything since then is based on them or influenced by them. The fact these acts all sound similar just shows that when they were younger they were listening to similar acts, nothing more.
