Big worry about raising remaining monies to be paid.

Hey folks

I am in a very difficult situation with being able to stump up the remaining cash for many reasons (the biggest being unemployed since last May since the early return from Australia and barely earning a penny since then other than JSA last summer. I then went to an 'alternative' (see barmy!) college and the place has since been shut down by the receivers!) I got the tuition fees waivered by being on JSA but didnt earn any money from part time work while I was studying.

I have been eaking out the remains of my tax rebate from Australia and although I thankfully have a roof over my head at my (put upon) parent's house, I still havent found work even after interviews but I am hopefully going to get some temp work from next week. And so finding £150 out of the blue before the 28th Feb to go to the fest this year is looking mostly unlikely.

I have had some very kind offers of a loan/help to cover the ticket from certain lovely Efest chums but pride is currently stopping me from accepting. But if I do bite the bullet and someone generously helps pay for me for the moment (and will obviously be paid back asap), I am probably just getting over worried but does the bank card you pay with have to be the same one used when the deposit was paid for back in October or whenever it was?

Even if I have money put into my account from a loan I have a new bank card with new number details. And the same goes if someone else puts the payment on their card. I just dont trust See not to f**k things over!

I would love to try and work the fest to have my full ticket amount returned eventually but dont have the money to put up front for the workers fee either.

I'm in a right royal financial mess and it's been eating me up for weeks if not months now. I cant ask my parents for the ticket money. They still dont understand why I just have to go (even after I've been going since 1995 and returning twice from Australia to attend!) and get pissed off whenever it is mentioned!

Part of me just wants to forget the whole sorry affair and just say bugger it, 2010 just isnt a year I can get to but it is all I think about, pretty much every waking moment AND sleeping moment tbh and I cant face being home alone during this 40th anniversary year. (I missed 2000 and boy do I regret that one...similar financial issues then too!)

So heyho, there you go. Its the bank question I would like the answer to if poss, the rest I just needed to get this shit off my chest. Hope you dont mind.

I have the same question about bank cards, I owe Barclays about £30 and have a different bank now, but I might have to transfer money to my Barclays account if they do insist on the same card!

Fear not, any account / bank card will be fine. I paid for my mates deposit, then be he paid the rest of the balance himself (different account obviously) and no problems.

I paid for 5 deposits for my best friend + husband + brother + his family on my card. she has since paid the balance on hers for all 5 with no problem so you should be fine. So not only a different card but a different name too.

You must let your chums help - they wouldn't offer if they didn't want to help and when this time next year you have a good job and a friend in the same situation how would you feel if they turned down your offer of help?

As said by a few others, different cards can be used, we have used a couple of cards to pay deposits and final balances. Really hope all works out and we have you there with us Lucy. x

You have helped many new people with your thoughful advice and have done much organising to help the eFest camp be successful. Last year was great !

Don't forget this is the 40th Anniversary so will be extra special and accept the kindness of others as in the spirit of Glasto !

If I was in your situation, I think I'd have to swallow my pride and accept the loans. It has to be better than not going, I mean if you're anywhere near as excited as I am (which I gather you are! ) then you HAVE to come!

I reckon you can use any card to pay the rest of the ticket of (not 100% though). There might be some lucky sods who got Daddy to pay the rest off for christmas or something, so you must be able to use a diff card.

Anyway, I really hope you can go because I know how gutted I'd be if I couldn't. Good luck

I hope you find the money, you seem really nice and helpful on here, even look at today with the RATM tickets!. Anyway I know how feel on the job front, and your probs not doing alot else so go for glasto and let the pride go! Its one thing to look forward to and keeps your spirits up while looking for work as it gives you an aim.(I know it has for me, get down about rejections, think about paying for glasto and having a great time there).

not sure if they still do this but you used to be able to apply for a crisis loan from jsa and then they take it out of your jsa at a set rate (say £5 a week) until you've paid it all back, just dont tell them its for glasto as i doubt they'll call that a crisis!

I used to get the ticket for my birthday (which until the dates got moved to October was conveniently 2 weeks before T Day in early April) but with the price being what it is these days I tend to pay myself now (if I can).

A big turn around in fortunes...in 08 I was earning £1500 a month in Sydney, paid for mine and Chocky's ticket and spent £2500 coming back from Australia just for a wedding and Glastonbury, was in the UK for just 2 weeks exactly!

To my sensible parents, spending £150 for a few days in a field is madness but I think we all know just how much that field means to me (even if I do whinge incessantly upon return each year! ) Even bigger madness when I have had no income since September 2008! (Chocky and I did volunteer work once we left Sydney to go travelling and lived off my Sydney work earnings!)

Fingers crossed I have between £400-800 to come from Oz from Oz in the form of cashing in my Super (Aussie pension) but I cant do anything about that until my visa runs out which is in 3 weeks time. Boohoo.

I'm not sure the deposit money for litter picking does actually get cashed prior to the festival, it'd be worth getting in touch with them. I'm sure you'll manage to work for your ticket somehow or another.

And, harsh as it sounds, sometimes you just can't do everything you want to. We all have to accept that fact at some point or another, for whatever reason. (Although I know how unbelievably gutting it would be).

At the least you would have a chunk towards it. If you are as passionate about glastonbury as you make out then surely you could have made some sacrifices along the way to save ten pounds or so a week.

Sounds to me you are one of those people who has terrible self control. Fancy leaving it until 2 weeks before the deadline to realise you dont have the money. It's ridiculous. Then to beg for money because of your failings is dreadful behaviour. Shame on you.

And as for having no job, maybe you should swallow your pride and take any job you can - work as a cleaner, in McDonalds, whatever it takes. There are far too many people around who plead poverty who are just too lazy/proud/arrogant to take a job they consider beneath them. There IS work out there for people who want to work. Sure it might not be your ideal job but that's life.
