Anyone know why they don't raise the screens?

I have often wondered why they don't raise the screens higher up the gantry at the Pyramid or Other stages. There is plenty of room to do it. What with all the flags they can be a bit low if your nearer the back than the front.

Maybe its something to do with them not being part of the actual stage structure like at most other festivals, so they would be less secure? (Wild assumption really though )

Doesn't make much differencve really, because the pics that they show on them are just a loads of flags waving

I would put my money on Health and Safety issues!

This is based on the fact that we had to move the football pitch from last years charity game back from the massive speakers that are half way back the pyramid field coz the security bloke guarding them was scared that we would hit one of them with a football and knock it down!

Now I don't know who he thought we had playing football that day, but I would be my life-savings that if any of the guys on that pitch even managed to hit one of those speakers it wouldn't be with the kind of force to bring one of them crashing down on his head!!

Now I of course could be wrong but with this in mind I think that they mind be worried about them blowing about in the wind?

I might be wrong, but i swear they were higher in 2006.

It's definitely wind. At Reading the screen structure is exactly the same as that except the big stage design material covers it up, with just a square for the screen at its highest height. Like so:

In the past when it gets windy the screens have been lowered behind the material! So at least with Glasto it's still visible when lowered.

TITP 2009, The Killers. Why can they have high screens and others can't if it is due to health and safety?! When the f*ck was the last time a screen flew off a stage at a festival?

*edit* btw notice the lack of 'T' on the left? IT BLEW OFF! Screens are fine! Glasto grow some balls and get on with it, up they go!

but on the side nearest the interstage area - would having that one higher not interfear with the BBC's castle in the sky studio? and the one on the other side is set level so it doesn't look wonky?

dunno. when we used them at V (Chelmsford) [ok not V but the Scout Jamboree that was held the week before] it didn't take more than a couple of mins to change their height

Its doubtful if its Elvs that save me, but wind would be an each way bet

Another possible is that the hill slopes in .... does that make a difference ... is T in the park "flatter"...?

I might be wrong here but the TITP screen is lower than the ones ant glaso , it just looks higher/bigger cos the stage is much smaller

Thats more like it. Why don't Glasto do it like that? Wind?..Hmmm.
