Theres nowt wrong with the setlist, looks great. Its the capturing of the audience Im worried about. Nice tunes, some serious songwriting from the kid, but Im far from 100%. Its nice, thats about the best I can say about what Ive seen of his live stuff.

That said, if the volume is turned up, songs like Superstition will get people moving!

It's soppy as shit, but it's such a beautiful song I really don't care. Though it will make me miss my wife who won't be there this year. :(

But for all you couples out there, it would be an amazing moment.

ampers - take a cardboard cutout of Madjid Bougherra with you and you'll be fine.

IIRC he shortened As (last song of the set), but rest at the end was pretty much full length, though no breathers in between.

If it was slightly medley, wasn't to the same degree as Prince's medley when I saw him.

2 guitarists, one playing the funkiest rhythm playing I'd ever heard - like Chic, but years earlier - and another doing all the lovely jazzy/Beck type solos. The bass player was the same as now (I think), Innervisions was the new album :O ....

I used to make a point of phoning the Rainbow every now and then to see who was on, and I still remember to this day, when there was a recording saying tickets for Stevie Wonder were on sale NOW!!! , before it had even been announced. I was with my sister, and we were both totally enamoured with Stevie around then, and I put the phone dowm, saying.." I think tickets for Stevie Wonder are on sale..." dumbfounded. So we caught the bus and got tickets. We could have been almost front row, but I said,

"no it's too close" (the stage was quite high, so about 10th row was best, which is what we got)... How amazing... choosing the seats you pay for

On the night, there was 2 shows, and the first had overrun, so everyone was hanging around utside the pub opposite the Rainbow, and me and my mate bumped into Pete Townshend who was waiting too. We had a little chat even...

During the interval, my mate went off to look for Pete Townshend to get his autograph... but our seats were so 'good', when the lights came up, I looked around and Paul McCartney was sitting just in front of me, Erci Clapton was a few seats along, and Townshend just behind me. My mate came back saying he couldn't find him, so I said "look behind me"...

I got the programme autographed by Pete for my brother who is a big fan (he wrote 'to Mick, were were you PT'... Paul signed it too... Eric looked like he didn't want to be bothered.. )

a rather magical evening all in all

I think we're getting a bit sidetracked. Stevie doesnt have a "harder edge" that he can somehow take out the locker can he? His setlist hasnt changed much in the last couple of years. He's gonna tell us he loves us multiple times. There are gonna be some grooves but the majority of the setlist will be soulful ballads. We know what to expect.

I doubt that Stevie would know how to put on a "daring" show given the vids I've seen. However, I would be more than happy if he put on exactly the kind of performance that he did in the O2.

The Rod Stewart comparison doesnt fit with me for some reason - but Im open to being convinced...

From where I'm coming from Rod hasnt got Stevie's talent or catalogue. Not that I was there but Rod's show was more Vegas than Glasto was it not? Im v interested to hear your thoughts mate. Youve got me worried now.

as the pupil gets called out by the head teacher...

in short...the Vegas analogy that you bring up. that's what i worry about w/ Stevie too. only a slight worry, but a worry. the slushy bits that you and blackcockerall were discussing vis-a-vis less 'funky bits'...

look, I'm looking forward to Stevie. very much so, and much more so since it was first announced. I'm missing the chance to see Rod y Gabs (best gig i've seen in 2010 thus far), the last half of Julian Casablancas' set when he brings on the rest of the Strokes, and my only chance probably to ever see the Glasto House band, to get the opportunity to see the legend on the Pyramid, so I'm obviously looking fwd to it. But, as part of a thorough and honest discussion one does have to bring up the ever-so-slight chance of it not reaching up to what we are all raving about it's going to be. I fully hope and expect to enjoy it immensely, but it doesn't mean i have to stay 'on message' all the time.

some of the best youtube bits that have been put up here over the past few months (for example. i loved the snippet you put up of "you haven't done nothin" a while back, perhaps my fave stevie track), are from his past era, a younger more energetic looking Stevie. and Face it, he hasn't aged well.

but, like i said. I'm fully 'on board' and looking fwd to closing the Sunday out with Stevie

if anybody's interested, this is a spotify playlist I just put together of his setlist from the 02 arena back in '08, minus a couple of covers.

http://open.spotify.com/user/ftw/playlist/...cPIuzTSub0tHfyy

thought I'd put the Miles Davis all blues in at the beginning, just in case no one's heard it before! (I mean it's only the centerpiece of the best selling jazz album of all time, but you never know..)
