Yeah I spoke to a guy at Shelter earlier and he said 'Ben's right, we dont want this £60k that we would never have had without people buying this song, it wont do any good whatsoever, especially at this time of year and especially now when the temperatures have plumetted and there is snow on the ground. people might as well not have bothered. I mean, if Ben had given us the money indstead of betting it, we wouldn't have been arsed with that money either'.

Saw this on their Wiki page (related to them being apparent hypocrites for being signed to Sony etc)

"When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that's where people buy their books. We're not interested in preaching to just the converted. It's great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it's also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart."

What a load of old bollocks.

Their f**king preaching like their some sort of religious propagandists. They are JUST a band. Any band that makes a wiki about themselves (unless it's made by a fan) obviously has an ego the size of a house. What a bunch of tossers. About as fake as Sting.

The most stupid thing is, the "campaigners" are claiming to "win the charts back for The People" but who took the charts away? The People obviously wanted an X-Factor contestant to get the number one spot the past few years, but obviously they don't count the needs of The People when it contradicts their blinkered views on the world.

They speak like the Christmas Top 40 is some sort of dictatorship with Fuhrer Cowell running the show, yet the whole point of this campaign is to stop another artist from getting to number one. Un-democratic, hypocritical, not to mention plain childish.

I love RATM but it's almost sickening to see the name of one of my favourite bands used in vain.

I love RATM too - have done right from vinyl days - however I totally disagree - for the first time in five years I listened to the radio to hear who was number one. The fact they got to number one shows the slumbering majority got interested and changed the outcome.

Ok they were 25/1 when i put my money down and that might have something to do with my jubilation, but this also has to do with people power. It's a cause which ignited people's interest - are you going to complain as bitterly if (perish the thought) the sleeping majority able to vote got interested in politics and voted, or the sleeping majority took to the streets to march on some burning issue.

As it stands now they are saying you can pick next year's protest song, so you can sit there and moan or suggest someone and just maybe they'll top the charts next year and someone can get all antzy on a message forum about festivals about the record you picked.

The power has always been with the people, hence why the X-Factor singles got to number one, because the people chose those songs as their christmas number ones.

I dislike the X-Factor as much as the next person with taste, but it's stupid how the RATM campaigners haven't realised this.

I was recently involved in a protest march against the EDL (nazi racist scum).

During said march "Guerrila Radio" was played over a sound system.

I suppose it's easy to berate "Rage", but in terms of single charts, has any other number one had an actual message that made sense? (the Pistols where cheated)

    • Same here, when the lineup dropped it looked very strong but this year I’m considering more whether I buy tickets for enjoyment or fomo.   Speaking of that dilemma, I caved and bought a Turnstile Piece Hall ticket so I’ll see you there 😂
