I have seen much much worse at other festivals than glastonbury

at global we were packing away and some lads next to us decided it would be funny to set their tent on fire ...which ultimately set the next tent on fire and so it went till the whole field went up and we were stuck it the middle - not funny

but kudos to glastonbury clean up team, they do an amazing job and its not one I would like to have to do ...

Cant remember what we left behind to be honest, we so so f**ked up on the Monday morning we just tipped everything into one big pile and tossed a lit match at the lot.

Came close to leaving our tent in 2007 after the Sun night/Mon morning downpour... camped at the bottom of Pennards.. we were soaked.. tent was soaked.. to take it down in that weather was a mission.

Guilt aside, I'm glad we did. (Took weeks to dry it out though) Used it again in 08 and 09 and it'll be back again this year. ( Had it about 16 years now, it's seen some service!).

Brought home a (new) abandoned wheelbarrow in 08, took it it back in 09 and it will be used again this year. ( There's something strangely satisfying about doing so, if a wheelbarrow can have a 'spiritual home' and a 'raison' d'etre' then Glasto covers both. )

Rubbish wise: Everything separated and bagged and left by the bins.

thats one advantage of a pop up tent. Easy to set up, quick to dismantle and ready to get going home in a min. Leave no trace

We always bin, bag recycle at home or away, disappointed with the bins round the site every year people just can't use the correct ones all the time as they are not emptied frequently enough (I know it's a hard job before I get shot down in flames) but the choice of the wrong bin or the floor? I would use the wrong bin I am afraid

Yeah, even with the 14000 bins - there is an problem with overflowing. Outside Brothers is particularly grim, some of it could be alleviated with a cup return scheme like they do at Latitude, but the scale of Glastonbury I believe means it is a logistical nightmare - but nothing is impossible.

Additionally, I think with the state of the bins - in discourages folk from actually using them. Of course, there are the lazy bastards who scoff their Pieministers and just leave the plates where they are sitting rather than making the effort to walk 10 paces to a bin.

It constantly amazes me, that a festival that promotes excellent green credentials attracts such a lazy bastard 'ungreen' crowd - present company excepted of course!

I like the cup return scheme. Seems to work a treat at other festivals (even it if does seem to generate a mini-child-labour-market scurrying round for peoples cups )

How come they dont do this at glasto? I'd pay a refundable 10p a pint more if it meant pretty much every cup got picked up.

In 9 visits to Glastonbury, only once have I left something behind and that was my tent in 2007. We were supposed to be taking it to that charity thing but was so so miserable that couldn't face taking 2 tents down. The guilt I have felt about that decision ever since means I would never do it again.

Otherwise our rubbish is separated in rubbish & recycling as we go and then we have a quick clear up of the general area before we leave. Don't think it hurts to be respectful of the place really.

I know I've mentioned Latitude before, but rather, than stick 10p on each cup - which people aren't so bothered about - the 2 quid on a hard plastic reusable cup seems to be the way forward. You get a freshly washed cup with each pint and when you hand in the cup at the end, you get your £2 back.

The Workers Beer Company which supply bars and staff to glastonbury and other events are behind the scheme for festivals such as Lat - can it not work at Glastonbury?

Wasn't there a discussion about this idea before and it was something about the amount of cups needed and location of the wash site for it was in Germany or something, maybe if glasto could organise to get the equipment for washing the cups on site then it could..

Oxygen in Ireland use the system and there are 80000 peeps there. It doesn't appear to be completely out of the remit to do it for G. If 100,000 punters at Glasters drink 20 drinks over the festival, thats a very very conservative 2 million paper cups - most of them chucked on the floor in JazzWorld! If they can produce a 2 million paper cups, surely producing 200000 reusable plastic ones isn't so difficult?

If they had a refund scheme with the cups, all the bars would need to have an extra 'section' where the cups can be returned and refunded, then they would need to store all of the returned cups before they can be sent for recycling. So i'm guessing it's lack of space
