Much as I love love love Prince and think he'd put on an amazing show, really showing Springsteens et al what a proper f**king show is all about, I've accepted it's never going to happen. Damn shame but there you go.

efestivals was clearly wrong about pulp. i thought SR required a strong basis, that wasn't just two tabloids saying Jarvis had said 'Glastonbury was his spiritual home'. I think that is one that was wrong, regardless of the news story concerning the rumuor being 'pulped'

Yep, it was wrong - but for less than 24 hours.

If we had any certainly about it we'd have made it more than a 'strong rumour'. But at the time we made it a strong rumour there was a very strong rumour going around that it was happening - so it was a strong rumour.

I will point out that unlike countless other sites (and it's still happening now), we didn't go over-board and write a news story about it; we kept our powder dry and checked it out, and were the first anywhere to state there was less to it than was going around.

Rumours, being what they are, can never be faultless. But when it comes to rumours - particularly for Glastonbury - this site is very normally streets ahead of every other possible source of rumours.

I'm assuming thats official by the way, but I doubt they'd just make them up. Someone on there says confirmed within a month.

Ermmmmmm ..... I've never yet seen anything on Last.fm relating to festivals which has panned out as true. It's as reliable as Wikipedia - that is, not reliable at all.

If you check into Prince's writing credits you'll probably be pleasantly surprised how much good stuff he's either written or co-written for others. Manic Monday by the Bangles is one of his and I think he co-wrote some Eurythmics stuff too. The guy is a genius and incredibly prolific. In fact I think the whole "artist with no name/slave" thing came about as he fell out with his record company over him writing about 3 albums worth or material in less than a year and them refusing to release it all so as not to potentially impact the sales of each album.

I'd love to see him live but I don't think he'll be at Glastonbury. Hope I'm wrong about that though.

It would be fantabulous if he played.

Prince was the first act that that i really got into, in my teens in the eighties.

Lost interest in him in the nineties, everything from diamonds & pearls onwards seems a bit too clean and overproduced.

Went to see him at 02 a couple of years ago for old times sake, and it was a fantastic night, far better than i'd hoped.

If by some chance he does play, it really could be something special.

    • Remain self-imposed on not going north of a hundred, but... we're getting to the point now where the starting gun will be above that for some acts.
    • I'm finding the lower line up a little impenetrable this year   Any thoughts on heavier bands a la Slift a few years ago?
    • Will be curious to see how most of those shows sell. Surprised they're playing Leeds and Manchester - much as I am with Megadeth. (Not complaining, mind you.)
