Yes, how do you explain? I've been trying to get my mate to get it together and register for the last couple of years. This year? He has chosen to go to V (again) because "there is less chance that it will rain". What a Prat! The worst call I have heard for a long time.

I tried to extol the virtues of Glastonbury to many after this year's festival, but it's clear to me now that they'll never get it unless they take the plunge and go. TBH, if someone had tried to explain it to me, I probably wouldn't have got it either. You just have to go.

Actually I've spent the last ten years telling everyone how much better Sonar/Benicassim are than Glastonbury.

Sonar is a very different festival to Glastonbury, and for those reasons it's very hard to call it better. (Although being able to go back to an apartment and turn on the air conditioning after partying all night is a luxury compared to baking in a tent)

I mainly used the argument of how much bigger it was than other festivals. Youtube videos of past performanes really helped a lot aswell (Pyramid field looks amazing at night).

Also the deposit system was a really good idea and without it I don't think half as many of us from my group would have gone.

Basically what I'd say is Glastonbury is whatever festival you want it to be plus a chance to savour things you wouldn't otherwise. For example, I wouldn't give you tuppence for any dance music festival by itself, but I do enjoy occasional forays into the Dance Village and have even seen some good acts there.

Also I'd say that although it's more expensive than most, it works out pretty good value for money as you're there longer. Also, that means you get more time to settle into it and really get a feel for it, something you don't always do with some festivals. It's more a holiday than a long weekend.

Self preservation when it comes to the tickets. If people are open minded enough they will come. If not they will go to other festivals to be sold branded coke, be beaten up and mugged by teenagers or simply leave feeling they should have tried Glasto as those folks on Efests must know something!

i went to Reading this year and V a few years back and i've been horrified on both occasions more so with Reading i must admit! ... been to some teeny tiny fests and they're always better... now i'm going for the first time ever to Glasto... alone.... because none of my friends want to spend that kinda money on "living in a tent in the middle of nowhere with loads of ageing hippies".... they are clearly mental as being a bit of an ageing hippie myself there's nothing i'd rather do i've not shut up about it since i bought my ticket but i do tend to do most of my chatting about it in places like this rather than with my friends who clearly have no idea what its all about!

To be fair on the Glastobating topic I don't really start on here until about May.

Although I have been a member for a while I did not really start posting until March 2008. Around May this year I was posting maybe 120 times a day. All total bollocks as well

a) that probably depends on what your choice of poison is, but judging by the increasing number and severity of casualties round the site, even from the wednesday, this could be unwittingly high

b ) thats why we're all on here effectively glastobaiting ourselves

c) it cant not.. you must walk up to the stone circle [without peeking or turning round til you get there] and that moment of revelation is where it really sinks in

d) good policy the more the merrier

e) we'll let you off

f) its quite difficult actually meeting people from here whilst there given the logistics invloved and (a) above but do your best.. try the brothers bar or sigining up to any of the forthcoming 'Meets'
