I was made redundant in march and have been out of work since. I was told two months ago from a certain government agency that I've got a job with them and they only sent me my contract today!! (I suppose I have to get used to this sort of thing working in the public sevice!!)

But now I'm absolutely brassic and that first pay cheque cannot come quick enough!

Absolutely. JSA is kept at a subsistence level so it is just that - a level on which you can live, but not pay for holidays etc. Although the majority of jobseekers are indeed seeking a job, there are a small minority who abuse the system and make it very difficult for people who are genuinely signing on becuase they genuinely can't get a job to be believed. Everyone on JSA is entitled to take an annual holiday, of course, although the jobcentre staff may, quite rightly, ask questions as to where the money is coming from - sadly, while you are claiming state benefits it IS their business (and ours!) to ask where it's being spent!

ARRGHHH - the boss came down South today unexpectedly and advised we were under consultation for a possible relocation of the whole office to head office up in Sheffield ;) (we are in Surrey).

If i don't move (I can't) then I will be made redundant in August. crap.

not a good time - took tent to the new forest at the weekend to check it out and the zip broke off the door. thank god for gaffa tape but i'm gonna have to look for a new one now. arse!

and this weather sure doesn't help my mood.

I'm not considering missing glasto by any means but this was the one year i was gonna say funk it and scrap the cooking idea and buy everything. maybe next year . . . .

Super noodles anyone?

I really don't like the idea of signing on. Can you do it online or is that far too lazy?

Had been unemployed for a few months but have actually got a job working for the dept work & pensions. Just waiting for my start date which will prob coincide with Glasto! They'll just have to wait tho as it's a pre-booked holiday. :O

Could really do with the money so I'd rather start sooner than later but they seem to be taking ages! (applied for the job in April!!!)

I got made redundant in January (for the second time in 6 months) and was out of work for 3 months. When I signed on for the first time the lady told me that I would have to let them know if I was having any foreign holidays as I'd need to sing off when I went and back on again when I came back. Glastonbury is going to be my only holiday this year so I told the woman I was going and would I need to sign on again and she said that if I'm away for less than a week and I'm staying in the UK I was fine and I didn't need to declare it to them. She just said that if I needed to sign on during Glastonbury all I needed to do was ring up and re-arrange my appointment.
