Jazz World or Jazz/world

OK, so a slightly odd post. <_< (aren't all of mine?!?! lol)

I have always referred to the stage/ area as 'Jazz World' sort of like a world of jazz. I would quite often tell people 'xyz is on Jazz World stage' or 'we are just sitting in Jazz World having a cider'.

Only yesterday I looked at the line up and it is actually down as Jazz/World! In hindsight, this actually makes more sense as a lot of the stuff on it is more, well, music from around the world rather than jazz music.

Has it always been Jazz/World? Guessing it has. Am I the only one (well me and my group) who always thought of it as Jazz World?!

...I've always thought of it as Jazz/World. To be fair, it's a pretty eclectic stage, I've seen all sorts of stuff there, none of which is necessarily Jazz or World! Including one of my favourite Glasto sets of all time, the legendary John Fogerty in '07...doo doo doo looking out my back door... <_<

I've only ever seen it shown as "Jazz World" or "JazzWorld" before ... apart from one year when it changed to "One World" (2003 perhaps ? it was the year Yes played anyway) and now this year it's apparently Jazz/World. Either way, the name doesn't truly represent what acts are on though.

We had exactly this kind of discussion in 2004, first settling at our camp.

Heads down in programmes, someone pipes up, quizzically... "Jazz World?"

"World of Jazz?"

"Or Jazz Slash World?"

"Jazz ampersand World".

The debate was held without anyone actually looking up from their programmes, as if we were, say, teachers marking homework together.

For stupid value, we've always called it, fully enunciated... "Jazz ampersand World" ever since.

Well, you know those silly festival jokes... you had to be there and all that :D

Here's what TOS has to say on it.

The Jazz World stage has been through many incarnations, but has now firmly established its identity within the Festival. It started life as the first extra music stage after the Pyramid and was called Stage Two. The programme has evolved over the years and the stage now hosts a generous helping of jazz and a wide range of World music, and touches bass with many types of funky fusion in between. There's been a lot more hip hop there in recent years, too. The field is also home to some of the finest food stalls at the Festival. Fact.

It was, in the early days before the "world" bit came into its name.

The quote from TOS is an accurate description of the stage. Neil's comments are also correct.

I work on the stage - if anyone's changed its name they haven't told me!
