I love that everyone keeps complaining that they are playing every festival. Lets think about this. The majority of people don't go to EVERY festival, so for fans like me, it's the only opportunity we get all year to see em (unless we go to a headline gig).

ALSO, if they are EVERYWHERE, why do the same complainers keep saying they are A. Shit and B. Not talented. Clearly they must be if EVERYONE is booking them. I seem to remember doing a poll not a month ago on these very same boards where fans of Bloc Party outnumbered the haters nearly 3 to 1, so go and complain somwhere else. Maybe in the Neil Young thread or whatever...

People saying Bloc Party are not big enough to headline, well they have played 2nd top on mainstages at other festivals in the last year, so that position = 2nd stage headliner. They are big enough, they have been selling out o2 Academys etc all year and just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are not worthy. They are easily big enough and I gaurantee they will have a large audience because the fact of the matter is a lot of people don't like the 'oldie' headliners

I won't be seeing them because I don't think they are too hot outside, would much rather them in doors. Either way still wouldn't be seeing them as don't they clash with 2manydjs? :P

Each to their own but I agree 100% with you. No way are Bloc Party anything like headline material. No problem with them on the bill but I was expecting a little better as the main band on the Other Stage.

Seen them a few times at festivals and never thought that much of them and it hurts to listen to the singer

For the record, I quite like Bloc Party but v.surprised that they're headlining Other Stage. They're playing fourth from top on the main stage at T in the Park - that seems more appropriate to me. This, coupled with the fact that Glasvegas (another poor band live outdoors) are second headliners on the same stage for Sunday, gets me a little worried that the Other Stage lineup may be pretty poor again this year.

Here's hoping not though - I really don't want to moan, just maybe hoped for something a bit better (it was Bjork in 2007!). The addition of Mogwai would make everything hunky-dorey :-)

Being 2nd from the top at Leeds/Reading and then top of other stage is a pretty fair positioning I think. It's not like they're a tiny band. If you asked the average festival goer they'd probably know who bloc party is for example, but they might not know of. say mogwai, despite the fact that mogwai are fantastic and everybody should love them.

And they're quite different to Neil Young or Springteen, so it's more likely to have something to please everyone. If they clashed with Blur though that'd be a bit odd as they aren't hugely different band in terms of the demographic they target but it's still fairly workable. But I can't see Bloc Party playing to a smaller than normal audience on the other stage.

i like bloc party, but...seems to be a common theme for these posts. Well i do want to see them and, i dont feel that they should be that high up, however judging by their position at other festivals they seem about right, so they are too high at every festival they are playing!

Ps fancy watching some of neil young and some bloc party how feasible would that be or would i end up missing more than I see!

Why all the haters? Bloc party are a seriously big band. Look at last.fm for example, bloc party have more plays than blur and Neil Young added together. I know that's not technical and hardly is a fair as last.fm probably is very bias in terms of average listener but I just wanted to make the point they are a worthy band of the stage.

Also, not sure if anyone here saw them play the pyramid a couple of years back early on? The crowd for that was huge genuinley one of the biggest I've seen during the day.

I understand if people don't like their music but think it's unfair to say they're not worthy of the slot.

Just my two pence :P

Well deserved headlining slot!

Praying for saturday so:

Friday: Doves

Saturday: Bloc Party

Sunday: Blur

Expecting major clashing though as I also wanna see Animal Collective. Maybe check Bloc Party at Lowlands in august.

    • Guitarricadelafuente was bloody brilliant tonight. This is going to be a very Spanish focussed year for me. Rusowsky dragging out Las Ketchup on Saturday has the potential to be a Prima magic moment.
    • £112 for standard entry. No thank you.
    • Meanwhile Gracie Abrams is £92 for the cheapest with the average price around £160 for lower tier and £103 standing.   First time in a while I've gone from a definite yes to a definite no on price alone.   Amble was £31 this morning.
