There's no obvious place for them to play on the Leeds/Reading bill either.

Very weird. Bet Leeds and Reading regret announcing the headliners before they realized they could get a band like that.

Despite liking FNM and having a Reading ticket, I'm actually quite annoyed by this.

The reason I go to both fests is because there's rarely any significant cross over. If we were talking about some lower bands, for example Black Stone Cherry or Billy Talent, I would be delighted, but when it comes to the top 2-3 bands I'm of the opinion that's where the sharing should stop. 2 of the 3 subheadliners are at Download and the other is Bloc Perty who I cannot for the life of me suss out why theyre popular.

I guess there must be a real lack of top bands about if Reading and Download have to double up like than.

although I feel for you guys OMG this is best news ever as really wanted to see FMN and was wondering if day tix wd go on sale but don't need to worry now as playing Leeds although headlining a tent the travisty of it but who cares I'm gonna get to see them!!!!

Although you are right that everyone did pull there face, the headline slot of the NME stage for Fri Reading and Sunday Leeds has not been announced yet and the rumours for a while have been that it will be an american rock band that will make everyone who has doubts over the lack of rock happy.

My guess is that should not have been announced unitl after Download had taken place.

Not overly fussed so long as come, say, 10:45pm on Friday June 12th, we'll have just the mother of all performances from Faith No More.

Can't understand this though, with the whole exclusivity thing and all. Maybe L/R are trying to claw back some rock cred? Not going to be an ideal crowd though.

Don't forget, Kings of Leon are one of those bands that are just everywhere at the moment. I doubt even Faith No More can take away much of the crowd expected for them.

After all the fuss that was made with the countdown and all for FNM to then be playing Reading/Leeds is a bit of a piss take.As people probably bought a ticket solely on the FNM annoucement thinking that they was getting something special a one of performance in this country.I know how gutted I would be.

3rd Headliner Revealed!On 02.03.2009

We are ecstatic to be able to confirm that our third and final headliner for this year's festival will be the hugely influential and pioneering American rock band FAITH NO MORE. They join Slipknot and Def Leppard as headliners for Download, taking place 12-14 June.

Following a wealth of rumours and speculation, the band confirmed last week that they would be reuniting, 11 years after they famously called it a day in April 1998. Faith No More’s appearance at Download 2009 will be their ONLY UK date this year.

A statement from the band confirmed that they are “still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff....”

A favourite of Metallica and Guns ‘N’ Roses, Faith No More are largely responsible for the rap/rock crossover blueprint and for influencing many of the nu-metal bands of the 90s, including Linkin Park, Korn and Limp Bizkit; the latter two will also play this year’s Download.

Live Nation VP of Promotions Andy Copping says of the news, ‘FAITH NO MORE were the band that started the whole alternative music scene. To have them play for the first time in eleven years exclusively at Download is amazing! They had so many huge hits, I can't wait to see the set list - "We Care A Lot", "From Out Of Nowhere", "Epic", "Falling To Pieces", "Midlife Crisis", "A Small Victory", "Digging The Grave"; not forgetting their awesome covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and The Commodores "Easy". They are one of my favourite bands of all time and being able to see them headline at Donington will be unbelievable. This is like the second coming of Christ!’

So what happened? I bet Downloads organisers are gutted.

i'm not arsed overly cos at the end of the day i still get to see Faith No More, but if they headline the 2nd stage at R/L along with Lostprophets, it doesn't look good on Download's headliners!!!

Seriously though, this is a bit of a piss take, as has been said before all the fuss that was made over this, all the emphasis on exclusive... And now it looks like they are showing the real reason for the comeback... Money... Yeah ok we all knew that already but having your face rubbed in it is a little off

Is it possible that it is a suprise appearance at Reading / Leeds? Would make sense judging by the reaction to the lineup announcements, accidentally self confirm, leave the dates up for a few hours, get forums everywhere bouncing, then take the dates back down having already given ticket sales boost, and then never actually officially confirm them, then low and behold on the day, look who's on stage... As has been said before somewhere on here before, the point of announcing bands is to sell tickets, secret sets are a great way of getting around contractual obligations, is this just a very clever cross over of the 2?
