Still believe the most electrifying show of this reunion will be on Friday June 12th. I'm gonna be like a cat on heat in the buildup to that performance!

I also don't believe it looks that bad on Download's headliners - very few Download bands actually play higher up at more commercial festivals like Leeds & Reading. Faith No More headlining main stage at Download, but only second stage at L/R? No great surprise there. Nor bands like Deftones who three years ago were second only to Tool at Download, but they're below a few bands at L/R.

Download and L/R are aimed at different (though not altogether different) audiences - Download caters more for the hard rock/metal community, whereas L/R seems to cover mainstream & indie scenes, sprinkling some heavier rock & punk music inbetween - although that's not strictly been the case this year. Its no big surprise to me if Download's headliners struggle to clinch the major spots at other festivals simply due to the fact that Download gets nowhere near as much coverage of L/R. Nor am I jealous, as it means you'll probably get a longer and arguably better experience in the company of Faith No More, Slipknot & Def Leppard at Download as a result.

Mind it will be a full headline time slot on the Main stage. It will be amazing, plus it's the first day of music of the festival so nobody will be knackered and everyone will eb up for it. Plus it's their first UK show in the reunion so I'd imagine they'd be up to prove they are still worthwhile too.

this i can agree way more with than if they do R/L. i could totally expect to see them do warm-up shows at normal venues before Download, and be grateful for them to get the practise! i don't even really care that much, i still get to see them!

Even if FNM are doing their own shows I'm still tempted by Download. Although the fact that I'd be missing Meshuggah, Manson and Clutch through clashes hurts.

What I don't get about all this fuss about Faith No More S/C Leeds/Reading is that all the L/R people are acting as though they've got one over Download and all the other metal festivals by snaring Faith No More.

How exactly?

It doesn't change the fact that Faith No More are still headlining Download, and will get to Donny before L/R. That they are playing Download with a ton of bands I haven't seen in my life including FNM, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Voivod, etc. - all bands that I, personally, never ever thought I would ever see, is more than enough to ensure that, for another year running, I don't have to feel envious of any other festival's line-up. I'm sure there's plenty of other people going to Download, on these forums, on the official boards, or maybe not on any of the forums at all, that all feel the same way about different aspects of line-up.

I'm a really open-minded person when it comes to music, but I can safely say that with or without Faith No More, I'd only take about 3 bands from the L/R line-up at the moment. That speaks volumes compared to the L/R festivals of years gone by.

I know I'm rambling a bit here. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that, the reaction from the L/R collective about the possible presence of FNM at those festivals seemed to be one of relief, and that outlines how badly they were crying out for a quality rock act the size of FNM.

You haven't heard anything on that scale from Download fans, which all in all suggests that while Download might not sell as many tickets as L/R - which is what the festivals seem to be all too much about these days - the best overall package still lies at Castle Donington.

I'm still over the moon about Faith No More and once I've seen them, I can pretty much die a happy man! But the reaction over this news has been quite overboard. Maybe other fest goers are used to laughing at Download for its supposed weaker line-ups - maybe true in past years but certainly not this year.

Nevertheless, it seems to have died down a bit now. Still reeling from Fear Factory getting announced for anything but Download at the moment :
