Radiohead - This year's Rage?

But all this sudden hype about them is very reminiscent of all the Rage hoppers last year.

I agree, they're overrated. They're not terrible and have some good songs but I find a lot of their stuff to be a bit dull and self-indulgent. Kind of like Muse really.

I'm hoping Weezer will be on NME at the same time.

Couldn't agree more. Went to the pub this evening after getting tickets and saw quite a few people who I know relatively well but not brilliantly. After a few pints, I got talking to them about Reading/Leeds and festivals in general, and every single one of them seemed to be jumping on the Radiohead bandwagon. People were saying how much they were looking forward to 'Creep', in the same way that a lot of people last year were looking forward to 'Killing in the name', though they referred to it as 'Killing in the name OF'. I went to see Radiohead last year at Old Trafford Cricket Ground and thought they were incredible; the best live act I saw last year after Bruce Springsteen, and that's including Rage and Metallica. Quite simply, Radiohead are the reason I bought my ticket this year, and for that reason, I'm willing to put up with the cretins who think they like them and the people who simply think they are 'depressing', for I'll be down at the front with the real fans. I agree though, haven't heard many people on this forum talking in a derogatory way about the band.

i've got a more positive view on things - radiohead are one of my favourite bands so i'm thrilled, but a few of the people in my group going to leeds haven't really heard radiohead. however, they've said that they seem them as an unmissable event, simply because, like it or not, they really are a very important band in music in general. the people i'm going with who don't know them still want to see them because it's one of those unmissable opportunities. i think that's a pretty fair thing to say really, and i respect that. i've yet to come across anyone "pretending" to like them, though i guess those people are around.

To be honist, i can't believe they are playing Reading/Leeds.. I am really quite suprised. I didn't think radiohead were into playing these corporate festivals.. and i thought V festival was a joke. Personally, i thought they were awful at V.. (I'm very critical of them because i love them so much) i'm not sure if anyone else had that impression. Reading is my fav festival(Obviously:p)

They will be frigging amazing though.. I just hope they play the classics.. not that i dont want them to play the more underground material (IF ANY!!) but i just feel at festivals, we want to here the karma polices, no suprises, the bends, street spirit, Idioteque.. you name it! should be a massive crowd, can't wait!

the question is......

is it worth going to see them at both venues?

will they change the setlist up much like they do when they play 2 nights in a city? (36 different songs over the 2 nights in london last year)

i guess they will be pretty similar sets as its 2 different crowds

I want them to play creep. It's a festival, creep will get the biggest reaction and that is half the battle won. You have to include the sing alongs as red hot chili peppers found out the hard way in 2007. Leave the more obscure album tracks for your own shows.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
