Blur

Hoping Kasabian headline the Channel 4 same time as Blur are on, don't think I could suffer 90 minutes of that smug c**t Albarn. The thought of a field full of people singing 'Country House' or 'Parklife' makes me sick in my own mouth.

neil, if you read this, have you added blur as a strong rumour because of the circumstances discussed so far on this forum and that they seem to be doing the festivals this summer or have you recieved some more information to suggest they will be playing v?

Thing is, doing a reunion tour for the cash doesn't really bother me. I was super excited to see RATM at Leeds last year despite knowing the set list in advance & it being an obvious money spinner. Rage however had a huge impact both musically & politically & were/are recognised as an important band, plus it's alwayas a pleasure seeing Tom Morello doing crazy shit. Blur however, IMO, had a couple of decent songs when they first came out, did some pseudo comedy shit, made one horribly obvious song to try & crack the USA (Song 2) & failed before disappearing up their own arses. Maybe it's because I let the whole Britpop thing pass me by?

Ah yes but Blur have a lot more difference in their music, they did try and have a different sound with each album and I respect that, so what if they're back together for the money, everyone else does it why shouldn't they?

I've been saying since they announced the Hyde park shows, Blur would headline V this year

Just wait until The Libertines are reunited to headline Reading and Leeds, a spot they would never get if they had never split up, a lot of acts now they split up and get back together years later and get a headline slot, Rage got headline slots everywhere because of this but when they last played Reading and Leeds when they were last going they played 4th down

At least you can say Blur have always been a huge group and they deserve the headline spot [im not saying rage aren't good enough to headline, but would they have if they had never split up?]

Maybe Rage wouldn't have headlined if they hadn't split but they were such an iconic band that they had alot of new, younger fans (much like kids now listening to Nirvana) who would never have had a chance to see them when they were active. Do Blur have the same appeal? Maybe there are indie kids now who have discovered Blur in their absence who will relish the chance to see them but it appears to be more of a nostalgia trip than the Rage reunion IMO.

just noticed blur have been relegated to just a rumour now, down from strong rumour.

got a feeling that guy who said its definitely oasis and the killers as headliners could be right you know....

would fit in with kasabian TBC as well as they would play under oasis.

also the potentially good thing about oasis being there is that it increases the chances of a weezer appearence i reckon. i recall reading an interview with rivers not so long ago saying they were playing on doing some dates with oasis this year, and they are big fans...

Im pretty disappointed, Ive never seen Blur, and Ive seen Oais twice at V2005 and TITP 2002 and both times they were just average

hmm oh well it could be worse, but I could see a lot of the fanbase of V going to those Oasis shows anyway, just thought they would try something a bit different, oh well, if it is Oasis it's still a big name which V deserves, If Blur don't play V, I can see Reading and Leeds trying to get them seen as they seem to be having a headliner crisis

    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
