Far North

the movie is stunning, really minimilist set over the top of a Planet Earth episode

an inuit woman and her exiled adopted daughter live in the middle of the tundra, they find sean bean, a romance evolves....

seriously, if you have the time, watch this movie and dont look up anything else that happens in it. do it now, download it now, do not ask any more questions and just go "wow"

if you just cant be bothered and want to know, read on

the daughter and sean been decide to leave together, when Loki (bean) goes off to hunt, the mother combs and plaits the daughters hair....

then strangles her with it

the CUTS OFF HER FACE

attaches the face over her own and sits in the dark corner of their hut, has sex with Loki until he pulls the face from the pin at the back, and it slips off

horrified, he runs naked into the tundra

slack face cries

your soul is a puddle on the floor

watched a few things recently

adulthood - thought it was better than the first but still not great. 5.5./10

eagle eye - pretty laughable what eagle eye is and it's a bit silly. 5/10 but that might be being generous.

stardust I really liked this, good amount of humour and just an all around enjoyable film. 8/10.

dead man - also excellent, tis a psychedelic western with johnny depp; pretty funny in places, cool neil young score & the girl in it is bloody gorgeous too (see below) Well worth a watch. 8/10.

Watched half an hour of Primer at the weekend. Thought it was one of the most boring half hours of my life and had to turn it off. I can see why some people might like it but really not one for me....I don't think I even understood what they were saying 95% of the time!

Caught "A Scanner Darkly" again last night. It doesn't convert to the small screen that well for me, but keeps realatively true to the book. I love the ending :D

Sky +'d A Scanner Darkly last night - will give it a go tonight, unless I can get on the xbox.

I watched Spinal Tap for the first time* yesterday - well funny.

*Yes - only the first time. I hang my head in shame.

I've a two films to watch this evening. First up is "The Secret Lives of others" the German film about the Stasi. Second up is "City of Men", the sequel to "City of God".

Watched Gamorrah last night. Terrifying. And made Naples look like a third world slum. Never realised the poverty in that city.

Watched Gonzo last night - was interesting but far too much Johnny Depp for my liking. I love him in Fear & Loathing (who couldn't) but when he's just being himself he's really really irritating... almost as irritating as when he's being Captain Jack Pointless.

I watched Into the Wild this week as well - what a wonderful film - some fantastic characters and lovely moments and such a sad ending. It has a class soundtrack too.

Watched Half Nelson as well - it was interesting but I didnt find it particularly captivating (Ryan Gosling is perfection though...)

What should I watch tonight? I want something funny.

Yes, it really hit home the strength of the totalitarian state and how it's manipulation can destroy people's lives for entirely spurious reasons - in this instance,

that the Minister wanted to screw the writer's girlfriend.

.

Was it a true story? I was wondering if the fact it was set predominately in 1984 was mere coincidence.
