  1. I'm really pleased for Arlo Parks. It's a beautiful album and very reflective of the times. I actually think it was a decent list this year. Loved the photo of Arlo Parks with next years winner Little Simz. Sadly didn't have time to watch the show last night but will try and catch up with the performances over the weekend. I still love the Mercurys because the acts are so varied and I think the being nominated is the main thing. They do help a lot of less mainstream music reach a wider audience.
  2. I'm surprised it's on so early. I thought it was normally closer to October. A sign of how fast this year has gone by I suppose.
  3. I just wonder how she'll get Michael Portillo involved.
  4. Fabulous and it's just before we go so you can give me a show review.

    First Gig Back

Yay looking forward to it and bonus for the Manics tickets. A lot of tickets for sale a lot under asking price at the moment.
  6. Hope you manage to get them. If not set up a Twickets alert for big events you can almost always end up with tickets.
  7. So anyone else get Dave tickets this morning? We're going to Manchester. I don't buy many arena gig tickets but excited for this one.
  8. Aw fantastic news I'm absolutely made up for you. Makes my good news about getting Dave tickets this morning seem trivial but we take the wins where we can 😄
  9. Let me help you with that Little Simz is first 😄
  10. I don't know I reckon she could be very smart in the incredibly smart category. She has a gamblers mind 😄
  11. I am so excited for this. The only tv I have been watching at the moment is Only Connect. VCM is fab unlike her idiot brother.
  12. Just to let you know I had a quick look on air bnb and you can definitely do better especially if you go further out anything on a train or tram line should be quite easy. Some will have their own kitchen as well which would help with carb loading. If you find any and your not sure if where they are is suitable feel free to post on here and I'll be happy to let you know how easy or hard it would be to see to the starting line from there.

    How do you feel?

Sorry you've been having such a tough time but pleased the house fears are alleviated for now at least. Think quite a few of us understand the treading water feeling. As I said to a friend recently people seem to have either survived or thrived during the pandemic and I am definitely in the survived category. Unfortunately a lot of older people don't plan for the future. They probably don't want to accept that they need to. I suspect future generations will get better at it as we live the consequences of watching what happens when you don't. Hang in there. It won't last forever.

    How do you feel?

Did your Dad do a similar thing to their partners or did he single your wife out? Without knowing how it is written it's tricky to give advice. I am generally an anything for an easy life kind of person. However I am also fiercely principled. Did your siblings have a similar relationship with your Dad to you as if they did you might want to try a more softly, softly approach. In that they will all recognise that what he did wasn't reasonable and that you want to ensure your wife is taken care of should the worst happen.
  15. I already have tickets but have asked some friends. They have kids so it may or may not be too late to acquire babysitters etc but a lovely kind and generous thing to do. As for hotels other than checking frequently I sadly have no tips. Have you checked air bnb's? They might be better if someone hasn't realised the marathon is on.
  16. I am not emotionally prepared for hearing One Day Like This because it is such a Glastonbury song and not having had my One Day Like This for so long now I think it would break me. Hope you enjoy the gig. I know they get a lot of stick on here but they are a lovely bunch and Guy Garvey's voice does make me emotional.
  17. Yes all the faff associated with weddings is one of the reasons that it was just my husband and I on a Polynesian Island 😄
  18. Yes there's a similarly ridiculous one with hats for women they can't take them off until the mother of the bride does.
  19. Good shout. We were in a hotel on the Cook Islands and it was just the 2 of us but there was a big night where there was a big Island feast showcasing fire dancing and local dancing and they gave us the front table so I kind of felt that I had to stay dressed up. It got my husband lots of free drinks so he was happy.
  20. Yes I just realised I didn't even comment on the wedding. I'm so sorry @DareToDibbleMany congratulations to you and your wife. Wishing you many years of happiness. What can I say I'm a sucker for great art. If it's any consolation I treated my own wedding day with similar disregard. We got married abroad and when I got back someone asked me was it the best day of my life, I said it wasn't even the best day of that trip!! Nothing against my husband who I am still married to 16 years later but the whole getting all dressed up etc isn't exactly my favourite thing to do and our wedding/honeymoon trip did have some bloody great day tours etc in it. It certainly wouldn't compare to winning Glastonbury tickets. You have no idea how hot I was in that dress and make up and apparently swimming in your wedding dress is frowned upon 😄
  21. Aw that's a proper great present!! What a great friend.

Yes we always opt for a bit of a walk with a faster getaway. Pack your waterproof and walking boots @Zoo Music Girl. Looks like Thursday will have a lot of rain so we can expect to get nostalgic about Glastonbury mud.

    First Gig Back

Yes that West Holts set was something else. I went to Chemical Brothers on The Other Stage when they played on The Park purely because I had never seen Chemical Brothers but had seen Hot Chip multiple times at that stage and I know loads on here love Chemical Brothers but watching the Park set from Hot Chip I was so devastated with my decision. They just always bring the party.

    First Gig Back

A friend who lives nearby in Prestwich sent me this which shows where the parking restrictions are. She suggested anywhere in the blue circle as being a good bet as it's near the motorway so should make for a quicker getaway. My experience of Heaton Park gigs (limited as it is) is expect it to be a bit of a bind. If we didn't have the dogs I'd probably have opted for the public transport options myself.
