  1. Yes I go in hopeful but my expectations are managed. I know how difficult it will be to get a ticket.
  2. I'm most looking forward to Self Esteem's album. The singles so far have been great.
  3. Putting the thread up early because my end of October is going to be bat shit mental and I will forget otherwise but I will be on holiday for the first few weeks of November and in the middle of nowhere so hopefully plenty of time to tot up the scores. Your chances of witty comments regarding the artists will improve significantly if you pick artists I have actually heard of! Here is a reminder of the rules: Contest window: Any album released or due to be released in October 2021. Entry window: from November 1 2021, 00:00 BST to November 5 2021, 00:00 ET. The system: Choose no more and no less than three albums released during the month in question, listed in order of preference. The best receives three points, second best two points and the third best one point. See example below: 1. Album A (3 POINTS) 2. Album B (2 POINTS) 3. Album C (1 POINT) If you post three albums without specifying an order, it will be assumed that it is from best to worst. If you post fewer than three albums, you'll be ignored and shunned by society (maybe not shunned but at least looked at sternly) No voting transfers from those who don't pick their full 3 albums

    Adele

You're not likely to find me in any George Ezra threads so totally lost on me. Funnily enough before he made it big. I went to a gig where him and The Wildflowers were the support. I liked The Wildflowers so much I went and bought a CD (even though I don't even have a CD player any more) whereas I said he does nothing for me. As you can probably tell from that story I'm not a talent spotter for a record company!

    Adele

Bit of a sexist thing to say as I said I'm not a massive fan of her music but love her as a person whereas my husband loves her music much more.
  6. I really like what I have heard of them as well 😄

    Adele

You know what I don't necessarily love all her music but I do love Adele.
  8. Interesting how we can all have such different perspectives Castlefield Bowl is probably my least favourite venue so much so that I was offered free tickets to Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot (whom I love) and I refused to go because I hate it as a venue so much. I agree the New Order gig was fab and that Hot Chip were absolutely class as always. Food prices at Heaton Park were awful as well. I paid £11 for a small portion of Mac and Cheese!! Can't believe I didn't know about the Chic gig until after the fact but have seen them 3 times are they have always been brilliant.
  9. They bring a fair amount of ridiculous live. I always describe them as a carnival band.
  10. I think @Zoo Music Girlhas hit on an important point. We have become a bit more American in our approach to music with specialist stations etc and that will no doubt have an impact on music going forward. Bands like Arcade Fire, The National and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will probably never enter the collective consciousness in the way that they could have even 20 years ago but they'll still have a large following.
  11. Last night was Laura Marling. She had no support and came on at 20:30 and played until just after 10. (perfect for old me at a midweek gig 😄) but worth noting for anyone who likes to rock up last minute. She had hurt her back so made a joke about how her guitar tech had to go above and beyond the call of duty and help her take guitars off and on. It was an acoustic set just her and the guitar. I really enjoyed it and considering the Albert Hall in Manchester can be a bit of a noisy venue the audience were very well behaved. All sounded lovely.
  12. I attended 2 gigs where I had to show them and yes it is just unprepared people who slow things down a lot but not the venues fault and I wouldn't dream of giving the people doing their jobs grief about it. I was just bloody glad to be back at gigs again.
  13. It's obvious it's not their choice. Why would they choose to do something that delays people getting inside? Some people really are short on brain power.
  14. Yes I had to give up tickets to Jarv Is as it fell badly and there is probably 7 or 8 more that I definitely would have gone to were it not for Nuala's absolute terror when people set off fireworks. She's so bad now that we book a fortnight in the middle of nowhere for absolute peak firework season and can't make any plans to go out for last week in October until about the last week of November. I had a few international acts that are still being re-scheduled as well.
  15. Ah I remember those days. Now November is a no go time and weekends in October and the latter half of October are pretty much a no go time as well. I bloody hate fireworks now!!
  16. @Quarkyou have been busy. Tomorrow I have Laura Marling which is 3 in 10 days for me but you put me to shame. After tomorrow I won't have any until December. The sacrifices I make for my severe noise sensitive dog. Why oh why is October/November the best time for gigs? Missing out on so many that I would love to be going to but hoping that a lot of them circle around again in the new year.

    How do you feel?

Since then the estimate has gone up to £1500. They reckon there are more body parts that need ultrasounding. Wouldn't mind but since we booked it she has walked every day. I swear she knows!! Up to 19.5k spent in 2 years. Thankfully 14k of it covered by insurance.
  18. Oooh thanks so much for posting didn't realise this was out already. This year is just going by so damn fast!
  19. There are a lot of reasons I am glad I don't live in America but seeing these ticket prices is fast putting it into the top 5 reasons I am glad I don't live there.
  20. I've got tickets for Self Esteem next year as I couldn't make her November date and fair to say I can't wait for it. She's on fire at the moment Yes it seemed like one was missing and I figure we can give each other good intel on who's smashing it Yep think there will be some bargains to be had on Twickets for those of us who can hold our nerve. Really wish I could have gone to Fontaines DC. Just fell in a bad week for me.
  21. Blimey some of you have been busy!! @CaledonianGonzoI would love to see Erasure at Glastonbury. They have some tunes all right. How were The Specials? I'd like to see them but last time they toured tickets were a bit pricy for my liking.
  22. So I thought it was time that I maybe stopped posting who I've been to see in the First gig back thread given that I am now on my 5th gig back but realised that I didn't know of any other appropriate thread. I thought it would be nice if people could post gigs they have been to and just some general comments about how they were, if the support was good etc. As we are all over the world etc it might help some of us make decisions on who to go and see (whether to rock up early for the support of not) Also when it comes to Glastonbury it might help people with some of their clash decisions. Last night I saw The Staves at Albert Hall Manchester. They were supported by Samantha Crain who had a great voice but it was a bit noisy with people chatting and fans going. I'll definitely listen to some of her music though. The Staves were great. Only 2 of the 3 sisters are on tour as one is home with new baby. They had an excellent band though (and one of the guys was doing the harmonies as well) and sounded louder than ever. They looked to be having a great time being back on stage.
  23. I would go with something new from each year. Sign up to a couple of Indies mailings and they'll usually tell you what they have coming out and get something that you really like or that you know she really likes at the time. That way it'll be more of a time capsule rather than you really should listen to these.
