Idlewild

Did anyone else see Idlewild on Sunday evening in the Avalon tent?  They were absolutely brilliant, and played loads of the classics.  And they even played Captain!  That made me very happy.

I wasn't really too bothered about seeing them, and I was running late, so was expecting to have missed the first 20 minutes of their set.  As it turned out I had got the start time wrong, and they were late on stage as well, so I got to see the entire set.  So glad I did.  Turned out to be the 2nd best gig of the weekend (after SFA).

I was there at the front (not hard as there can't have been that many there)

Loved every second, although a bit of a shame they didn't play actually it's darkness or when i argue.

It's a great slot if you're not fussed about the headliners, I saw wonder stuff in the same slot when the boss headlined, can't have been more than 200 (!) people there. Was really intimate and everyone had a really great time (if you love that band enough to miss the sunday headliner, then as a band you've got the most captive audience money can buy)

These Wooden Ideas wouldn't have gone amiss either.  They have so many good songs though, that they have to cut something out.

I had to have a difficult conversation with my group at the time, they couldn't fathom why I'd rather go to avalon that night.

Friends I went with this year were much more chilled out and 'got it'

I think Roddy said at some point "we haven't got time for them all!" as people were requesting TWI (I think!)

Love the Avalon tent - it's one of my favourite stages. Lovely and intimate!

I still regret missing Barenaked Ladies in there a few years ago, and Gomez who I think headlined sometime before then.

Clearly next year I should aim to spend more time in there!

That aswel! It goes down as my favorite tent gig at glasto ever (not to rub it in!)

Yeah I heard him say that, wasn't sure what song people were asking for.

Since I've got back, I've discovered that Make Another World is actually a damn good album.  I didn't give it the time of day when it came out.

It's on my list to get as soon as I remember.

....which is now :)

Yes, I was there! Second-best gig of the weekend for me, after Suede. I had genuinely forgotten how great a live band Idlewild were, and loved the whole gig - made even better by the fact that I'd just watched a cracking Seth Lakeman set beforehand.

Those were my two faves as wel.

I'm guessing there's a causal element in age? (33) Or am I widely off the mark..

I'm late 30s, so yes, I was in my sixth form / early undergrad days when Suede were big the first time round. I think everyone around me in the Suede crowd was around my age and we all knew ALL of the words to ALL of the songs, which was a great experience! Pretty much the same with Idlewild I think - sometimes nostaligia fails, but with these two gigs it really worked brilliantly.

I was at the back of the tent feeling tired and rather pissed as I felt compelled to drink the last of my JD in one big gulp lol

nevertheless, although late, they were brilliant, first time I have ever seen them and I have been a fan as long as I can remember - they did 'my' song too which was great (A modern way of letting go for those wondering) and closing on Remote Part/Scottish Fiction was class.

Raced from there to catch last 15 mins of the Chems, was a great set by Idlewild. Would've liked to see them get longer though.

Was there right at the front, Idlewild are one of my favourite bands loved them since I first saw them at my local rock venue when I was 18 (Roddy knocked his front tooth out going mental)

Seen em tons of times over the years including a very intimate acoustic gig in London last year and I have to say the Glasto gig was one of the best, love the new album and great to see them still rocking it after all these years.

Definitely in my top 3 gigs I saw at Glasto this year and worth the ticket price alone...

I was there near the front too they were great - we went home afterwards and it was a great end to the festival. I don't think I could have seen Idlewild since Glasto 2002 and really enjoyed it. Was great that they played such a mixture of stuff. 100 Broken Windows is one of my fave albums.

(I also saw Bear Naked Ladies in there a few years ago, they were great - we randomly stumbled past them playing in the rain that year and had an awesome time!)

I was right at the front for this, was surprised they didn't pack out the tent.  They played an absolute blinder, so much so that I've just booked tickets to see them in Edinburgh next month.  As others have said, I had forgotten how awesome they are :)
