If PTV can headline second so can Good Charlotte but it's a decent attempt

Shikari have headlined the second stage before.

I know, but it's better to do that again with them seemingly using that slot mot for borderline 3rd/sub acts rather than straight 3rd down than just playing the same slot. It's clear even more this year that because how they stagger the times that second stage comes after sub and is the last act before the headliner it's turning into another sub slot and two of this years have done it before with Halestorm maybe being a bit more borderline. I think would look more out of place 2nd down from top than 2nd stage.

I really don’t think it’s a rigid as you keep making it sound. Second stage headliners vary in size, they are usually equivalent to main stage subs or the acts playing third down main. There is no hard and fast rule. Some years the second stage headliners have been bigger than the main stage subs.

Bands headlining second instead of subbing/being third on main is usually for one of the following reasons… A.They want a bigger stage production. B.They don’t ‘fit’ with the headliner for that day. C.They’ve played Download a lot so the organisers want to ‘mix it up’ a bit. D.They were booked later on and the suitable main stage slots are already taken.

Shikari could be third down, sub main or headline second. Depending on how strong the lineup is, they wouldn’t look out of place in any of those slots.

2027: Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Deftones

2028: (25th anniversary): Turnstile, Nine Inch Nails, System Of A Down, Ghost

2029: Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Bring Me The Horizon

2030: Bad Omens, Slipknot, Muse

I have a feeling Iron Maiden will finish up before playing Download again there's more money to be made with there own farewell shows

I don't recall a second stage headliner being bigger than sub before and hence I've said it's a very recent thing the overall size of secons stage headliner is bigger now. But this year Friday and Saturday second are both bigger than the subs those days, Sunday is not. 22-25 as well no second stage headliner was bigger than sub.

In fact you go back to 17 and 18 and some second stage headliners weren't even above 4th main with focus on Sum 41, RA and YM@6 but not looking further back. The one's that were and ever since up to last year were all 3rd down acts apart from maybe Pantera being in between so there is a long history being correct.

It's a decent prediction, not for me apart from Blink and Saturday but that doesn't really come into it. Blink, Slipknot and SOAD would be the trio I'd want most. I think with that trio I'd probably return to camp and just chill in the camp until I really wanted to go in.

I think Download getting Slipknot and SOAD in the same year won't happen although they did have Slipknot and Rammstein in the same year in 2013 but I did hear somewhere that Slipknot were a replacement for someone else dropping out

Feels like having two bands of the same genre wouldn't happen but I wouldn't complain if it did happen that's for sure

25 - agreed

24 - Pantera

23 - Ghost & Evanescence

22 - agreed

Like I said, no hard and fast rule. The size of second stage headliners fluctuates, it always has if you look back over the history of the festival.

I mean you have two nu-metal bands headlining this year, even if they are quite different. If SOAD and Slipknot are available in the same year they'll 100% book them both IMO.

Just seen this, at that time, I wouldn't say Ghost or Evanescence were bigger than the subs, all the subs in 23 were at the peak of their selling points.

Pantera is a borderline one. But even from your view 9 out of the 12 from those years are in favour of it.

Don Broco aren't subbing and definitely not that quickly after last time. The rest is more realistic but I dont think Shikari get sub either, apart from Nottingham and one Ally Pally Saturday date their tickets are really easy to get. Even two of 2024 subs sell arena tickets way quicker than Shikari do and a bigger overall set of venues too. Their best best is headlining second where its in the border of sub and 3rd range.

Longshot with AC/DC but I can see them doing a final festival tour before they pack it in

I think you are right with Broco and Shikari headlining opus similar to Architects this year

Thought I'd add The Chemical Brothers as the wildcard akin to Scooter

Could very easily be correct on Slipknot and Blink. Imagine they find themselves in a place where Slipknot, Blink finally ready to play, SOAD and Foos fancy it?, you've got to sack off Slipknot and book those other 3 surely?

My guess for next year based on time since or new activity:

Muse - Slipknot - Foo Fighters

Haven’t the bookers come out saying 2 new headliners?
