New album, tour selling well and played many festivals last year. So I can see them heading to Donnington for a UK exclusive show.

Thing is do people want mew Download or do people want to pretend this cake 2.0 is actually a things that exists and that just rebooke headline bands people aren't bothered with at Download or walk out on and all the same stuff apart from the old one's ready to crock it.

I think as long as Biffy continue to get number 1 albums and fill arenas they will always be a possibility for Download headliner but they will never be near the top of the list.

They’re the “in case of emergency” band.

 

I could imagine the Download team having Foo Fighters, SOAD, MCR as their top choices with Biffy, Deftones and Offspring as “like for like” fall back options for if/when the stadium bands say no.

I don’t think anywhere has ever taken bets on Download headliners. Only really Glasto that I’ve seen being on betting some betting sites.

Firstly that message up the top was sent in the gym and this screen is awful to type on now but I dare not pull it off incase of damage. Secondly, The Offspring will be on the mix of thoughts more than Biffy will as will Deftones.

 

It doesn't really matter if they get no.1 albums, so lot of options that Download don't book. It's not even that difficult to get a no.1 album these days. The fact is everyone that walked out before Biffy even started on 2022 and before that didn't suddenly decide to start buying Biffy albums and go to their gigs, their core is a different audience. It was Download audience on their earlier albums.

My initial prediction included Deftones as they'll obviously headline the next time they play, but after an arena tour next year and recent APE announcement, I'm thinking maybe they won't be so active in 2027?

 

MCR surely would be the most popular booking they could make. No European dates announced for 2026 other than UK (which seems odd) and it's been hinted that their current tour could go on further than next year.

 

Ghost seemed nailed on for 2026. They must be in the frame for each year now surely.

 

If the rumors are true that the bookers are in talks woth an artist that have never played before, the leading choices must be Blink, NIN and Foos. I rekn blink will be releasing new stuff in 2027, so they'll either be recording or touring their own shows. NIN would be cheaper than Foos yet still a popular booking.

 

So my very early prediction at this stage is NIN, Ghost, MCR.

 

Turnstile to sub. Their show in Manchester (and every other show they do) is a performance of a band that headlines festivals (2027 would be too soon for Download to make that booking though). They're incredible and a sub slot below MCR would look great on the poster 👌

 

Falling in reverse will surely be booked as soon as they're allowed in the UK... so if that gets sorted soon I'd predict they'd be sub in 2027 too.

People keep saying Ghost are on hiatus in 27, although idk where that came from.

I kinda feel like Biffy might be done on this cycle by the time this comes around, but if they're not, they're definitely a possibility, but I don't see DL going for it.

I think a trio of Blink, Deftones and Slipknot would be the best they've had in quite a while in terms of my personal taste as even in 2023 I wasn't really bothered about BMTH

Slayer would cost headliner money, so I don’t see them playing again, unless they headline in a year where they’re struggling to find bigger headliners.
 

Idles, Turnstile, Soft Play, Malevolence, Devil Wears Prada, and a few others are all way too low down the line up to be realistic.

Been years since I've posted here, faffing about adding stuff on setlist.fm made me think of here for some reason. I think even my avatar was added like 20 years ago 😄 I've not done Download in 16 years I think. But plan on going again in the next 2 years.

I think its a good prediction but Good Charlotte will be higher than 3rd down I think. Or they'll get the second stage headline to make it feel a better booking. I think Blink, Avril and Good Charlotte is too strong for a top 3 for Download to book. That probably beats Green Day, Weezer and JEW to some extent. Sunday for Poppy, Evanescence and SOAD would be good.

the same sort of nu metal era. Could see an older act alongside. Maybe Foos next year alongside Blink & Deftones but might be too big. I wonder whether Leppard would be asked back after selling arenas well too.

It won't be Foos, they will have their pick of festivals next year. I maintain also that Good Charlotte won't play as low as 3rd down, they are topping a day costing £140 a ticket....I dont think it'll sell out anywhere near as quick as last year though and lineups compared for good reason. Slipknot I've expected back at Download for a while, easiest one to predict for me. Apart from that Saturday though nothing really carries the Download 2.0 tag which I think is rubbish anyway, only have to go by this year with two retuning headliners to know that. I think Deftones playing again next year will be big overkill myself. The only time they've played 3 years in any recent times includes two lower down Reading Festival spells which was not their stomping ground anyway, and included a smaller academy tour and a Download high spot between. I'm not sure why unless it's a case of really struggling for headliners you'd want a headliner with 3 years of being on the road. It's also not like the Outbreak show has sold out quickly, it's £65+ fees so far from the most costly and it's easy to get tickets, with Idles amd Amyl as supports as well which I mention as the most recognized one. Fontaines had Amyl at a similar sized event last year, 5k in it as the main support and tickets won't much quicker.

Deftones haven’t played R&L since 2013; that’s hardly recent 😂

Good Charlotte are fine third down. Jimmy Eat World, Enter Shikari and Sum 41 all headlined Slam Dunk and played third down. ADTR are a bit of an anomaly but they are the biggest headliner SD have had and the only way they could get them to play was to allow them to play their own shows as well because they couldn’t afford them (I heard that first hand at a Knocked Loose show in 2024 from the guy who runs SD who said ‘We try for them every year but they cost too much’).

Offspring weren’t selling out the arenas that they have been when they headlined slam dunk.
