Kalorama Madrid 2025

TIMETABLES are out. They've done a great job. They have seemingly shifted L'Imperatrice to the end not beginning of the night.  And Scissor Sisters getting amazing reviews for recent shows - will be a good way to close out the festival.

Looking at this as a potential last-minute festival trip. Having never been to Madrid, is it easy to travel between the new location and city centre? I am torn though.

I'm not sure on how Madrid feels about tourists at the moment - or if the protests are mainly oriented towards the holiday rental sector and its impact on housing, rather than on tourists themselves - I support the protestors on housing. Is Madrid also suffering from over-tourism and the need for protections against it?

I do like the line-up. It's not overly packed, but has some good additions. We saw L'Imperatrice at a festival last year and they were very good. I haven't seen Scissor Sisters for many years, but their shows have been getting some good reviews lately. Would be interested to see them.

Not a complaint but wow, this festival is empty.

Must be losing a lot of money…

I wonder if they would be better running it somewhere where there is a bit less competition for festivals. Maybe Malaga? Slightly later in the festival season might work as well.

The Portuguese edition seemed to have sold very badly too. I'm not sure what went wrong, guess the lack of a big seller name headliner didn't help.

I think it's pretty well curated but sadly assume they will have to go a different direction next year.

The headliners aren't great, and I wonder if the fact that it's got smaller last year (unexpectedly), and then smaller again this year, makes it feel less appealing.

It's crazy in some ways, as you'd pay the early bird price just to the Pet Shop Boys in the UK, but then it just looks a but limited for a festival. And while the curation might tempt us, is it a bit mixed for a casual festival goer?

Agree with everything you have said!

It's got an exceptional quality:price ratio so happy it exists and wish more people felt the same so it could continue but don't see how it can and assume they will give up or book more commercial names with a much weaker undercard.

Really enjoyed it - sound was good, people were very laidback and was easy to get near the front.

Gripes were minor - barely any places to sit down, some of the bar staff were a bit shambolic (one gave me a beer which was half head), the site itself lacked any charm.

Overall 9/10, hope it stays with this format but not holding my breath...

Really enjoyed this festival. Sound was good, views were good. The Aguila beer was nice. Lineup mix was good for me too.

Agree that there could have been more seating spaces...especially when it is still 30degrees at night. But overall no real issues.

Was glad to see it slightly busier on the Saturday, but I do worry about it going forward. I must say though, and it might just be me gettin old, but it is nice to be at a festival where I don't feel crammed like a sardine as they try to squeeze in more and more people.

Presumably similar to this for Madrid too and switched back to August.

tbh I don't believe Kalorama Madrid will happen this year. They already had a reduced version this year

and for example  Turnstile during this weekend will already be at All Points East (28)   and  Rock En Seine (29)

Deftones will be on Rock en Seine (29)

Clipse are in All Points East at least.  (i didn't checked all the others,  but with Rock En Seine, Reading/Leeds, All Points East  and others festival)  it will make it difficult for Kalorama Madrid

I suspect you’re right. Seems odd considering Madrid is such a massive city but the demand just isn’t there.

This is all standard stuff - planes exist and the bands have agreed to do this.

Its not like they are not actually booked - if it was fake (clearly not) then acts would call them out.

Well, Kalorama Madrid exists mostly because the local government killed the Cala Mijas festival, right?

They started the same year and are in different countries?!

Huh? MEO Kalorama and Kalorama Madrid are two different festivals and we're in the topic of the latter one.

Sorry got mixed up with Cala Mijas!

Plenty of the movements I said about above though are possible.

I really don't understand what you meant about planes exist and the bands have agreed to do this and it clearly not being fake.

We know Kalorama in Lisbon is happening - no one is disputing that. We don't know if there will be a second Kalorama anywhere else (which as you say was initially in Cala Mijas before moving to Madrid).

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
