Saturday:

Tom Odell 13:30-14:10

Sugababes 14:55-15:35

Myles Smith 16:20-17:00

Wolf Alice 19:10-19:55

Quite surprised to see it so spaced out and with no extra additions. Secret set is Saturday 13:15-14:00 on the New Music Stage. Any ideas?

Maybe the 1975

I just clocked The Lumineers are in Manchester at the AO Arena on Sunday night. If I was betting man I think I’d put my stake on them, as they’d fit the Mumford day quite well.

Do we normally find out in advance or do they really only reveal it on the day?

They are at London that night, i know thats far from impossible especially with them being first on but who knows

Plus the slot is on the Saturday not the Mumfords day.

Didn't you say Rizzle Kicks were in the mix?

The only thing which makes me think it's a bigger artist is the 45 minute slot, which is longer than most of the slots on the main stage

I did say that, based on Jade saying that her and Rizzle Kicks were playing the same festival this summer. Would have thought that meant the same day too which would rule it out for that but it could be.

Good point, I was thinking the 25th was the Saturday 😅 could rule them out then!

Biffy Cyro getting 10 minutes than last years sub is a bit bad.

I'm surprised they're playing a Radio 1 event at all! They feel a bit more Radio 2 nowadays. They're the reason we're going friday though.

I wonder if they are doing it as a warm up to their European tour

Probably right but I'm sure they have done before. It's mad how it was difficult to get through got tickets for Friday on the day but they still have them now. I've never know a time when Saturday and Sunday holders are welcome to purchase them. Surely you wouldn't even consider putting Liverpool in a future tour.

To be honest I would probably sell my ticket if they ever let you for Friday and take an upcoming European tour instead as 9, 10 songs at a push isn't much.

Yeah my girlfriend is a big fan, and we've noticed a lack of Liverpool on their main tours, apart from the small fans-only one they did.

Its like Radio 1 have focused on "Liverpool...The Beatles" for the main stage, instead of the dance music. If it was a big DJ that would've sold out, but maybe all the best ones can't contractually play that close to their annual Creamfields appearance...

Yeah I mean booking a big dj likely isn't going to happen in Liverpool with Creamfields.

Any possibility of the secret show being someone performing at Live At Leeds or NBHD weekender ?

I was surprised Sigrid wasn’t in the first announcement , could be possible she plays 2 sets in one day? Early afternoon in Liverpool and evening in Leeds? Or is that too ambitious ?

I would suspect the secret show will be a more ‘mid’ size name. I would be surprised for the likes of the 1975 to turn up, especially if playing the new music stage.

I'd guess Jamie Webster to be honest. He'd finish at 2 in Liverpool and be on at 6.15 in Leeds, which is plenty of time.

just spitballing here but my two cents are on Ed Sheeran to turn up somewhere this weekend. obviously a deep connection with Radio 1, and done the festival before a couple times. plenty of coverage to get from an appearence, and a new album/singles to promote. did a pop-up show in Sheffield yesterday and has a knack of doing similar things. but i also would not be surprised if a Jamie Webster-like act fits the bill

I was originally thinking Ed Sheeran for the special guest with the recent release and close connection with radio 1, also as a last minute replacement for Coachella.

The only thing that makes me wonder to have someone that big as the special guest is that they would overflow the New music tent. Surely most people would go to Ed Sheeran over Tom Odell?

Similarly I’m not sure the introducing stage is large enough for a big artist as a secret set.

Regarding Ed or anyone big playing that slot, I'd suggest that our expectations should be lower.

But regarding crowd control, if its not announced until its happening shouldnt be too much of an issue. R1 have had crowds outside the tent before so wouldnt say its too impossible. In fact I would say that is likely why it is a Surprise Slot for safety reasons.

Not too fond of Tom so I will show up and see whats happening.

The only thing which makes me believe it could be someone 'bigger' is that it's a 45 minute length slot, which is the same length as the main stage sub-headliners. Otherwise acts normally only get 30/40 minutes.

There's lots of names I would like it to be, but it's definitely best to keep expectations low.

    • Remain self-imposed on not going north of a hundred, but... we're getting to the point now where the starting gun will be above that for some acts.
    • I'm finding the lower line up a little impenetrable this year   Any thoughts on heavier bands a la Slift a few years ago?
    • Will be curious to see how most of those shows sell. Surprised they're playing Leeds and Manchester - much as I am with Megadeth. (Not complaining, mind you.)
    • Biffy Clyro back again for R+L then 😁   To be fair, Biffy Clyro still one of the true "coup" bookings they've had here. Not implausible another Victorious headliner ends up in the mix, given Ashcroft has done it before. Maybe Kasabian, on the back of their arena run?
