Given how difficult it was for Man United to extract Dan Ashworth from his Newcastle contract, I'd be surprised they'd try going down that road again.

 

I agree on the lack of alternatives problem though. But this isn't exactly a new issue given that this was perhaps why EtH was allowed to stay in post after the end of last season when it looked for all the world like he was going to be shoved out the door.

I'm unsure, if they see Howe as the man they will get him. 

 

Trouble for utd is the elite managers won't come, so would need to go below that. They won't get a Zidane, Klopp or Ancelotti. The utd job would be career suicide for them, gambling there entire reputation on the job. 

 

Howe would be a good fit for me. Certainly better fit than a Tuchel or other European coach I've heard like inzaghi, allegri etc.

This story has left me feeling pretty downbeat. I grew up in the same area of Buckinghamshire where Baldock also grew up, and he was only a few months younger than me so would've been in my year at school. I didn't know him personally, but several of my friends did and those that did thought highly of him as a person, which is something fans of his clubs also said, particularly from several stories I've seen from fans at Sheffield United. So there's a lot of just sadness at this turn of events.

I think if the disdain between Howe and Paul Mitchell had carried on, there might have been a case, but with that having calmed down, it looks like that window has receded and I think it would need a blockbuster bid to make us consider it thanks to the disdain. To say nothing as well of the same point about Man Utd's job being a poison chalice meaning it might put him off and that he seems happy with the Newcastle project for now. Looking at a betting site, he doesn't even crack the top 20 at this moment for "Next Man Utd manager" odds.

Eddie Howe for me deserves a chance at a top 4 club, I know that perhaps isn't happy reading for Newcastle fans. Perhaps arteta will go to city, Howe to Arsenal. 

 

Or perhaps the England job, Newcastle is a good stepping stone for Howe and I think it's worked well in that regard.

Honestly Arsenal would be a move above Man United right now, but I think Arteta to City at this time would be a surprise.

 

Carsley's name going down the ranking yesterday could put England back to square one though. Although maybe it just means they'll turn to Graham Potter, which has been suggested.

I think Man U would be mad to go for Southgate. He is good at the corporate side (maybe that’s what they are looking for) but I just don’t see anything to suggest he would succeed there.

Can anyone succeed there? So much noise and hysteria and a lack of evidence they're learning from previous past errors in the transfer market.

To be honest it's better, but it's for the future. Utd are not signing passed it pkayers, but the other way in signing to many youngsters.

Presumably if ten Hag leaves before January, that means any work in that window may have slightly less pilfering of the Dutch leagues. Well unless they do plump for van Nistelrooy given his biggest coaching experience is of that league.

 

It sounds tbf similar to Chelsea, given that their investment portfolio has all been about signing players under 25. Some of which (Palmer) has gone better than others (Mudryk).

It's a better situation than signing all the over the hill players on big wages. It will take a few years, but it's the right way to go. 

 

Erikkson is gone in the summer, likewise Casemiro one would imagine. 

 

They've got to stick by a manager eventually. Rather than the cycle of top 4 and then under performing and the manager gets the sack. 

 

Unless they just do that until they find the one, which tends to be the way at utd. Having only 2 managers winning the league in over 110 years is a bit crazy.
