Guy on the Download forums called Carnage made this which gives an idea of the general picture

As I pointed out earlier, Steven Tyler seriously injured himself and is unable to sing. So Aerosmith are impossible. So he can't have spent much time on that as he has them down as unlikely, just random guesswork without any research.

I think the most likely headliners are the three below

A7X - new album & not announced a tour yet
SOAD - were due to play the covid years and are open to random/one off appearances over a tour - feel like if Rammstein dropped they may be down for it and could do a couple of festivals like Download and Rock Am as a little payout
Iron Maiden - included in the original leak so still in play and will be active, I don’t think Bruce touring solo will make any difference to them playing

Then those that are possible but not as likely as above - Blink-182 (new album), Green Day (announcement for album and/or tour imminent)

Not sure but could probably do it and more likely than below - Def Leppard

Outside chance but more unlikely than all the above - Tool, Guns N Roses, MCR, RATM, RHCP, AC/DC

Little to no chance of headlining next year I’d say Linkin Park, The Prodigy, Ghost, Parkway Drive, Queen, QOTSA, FFDP, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, KISS, Foo Fighters, Rammstein (no UK date, on the leak, possible Festival only shows but never done before), Biffy Clyro, Paramore, Nine Inch Nails, Fall Out Boy & Ozzy.

This is obviously subject to chance if someone like MCR announced a date, tour or new album tomorrow.

The problem with The Prodigy is they still sell crazy tickets and putting them on the second stage as headliners would be mad! It was silly putting Evanescence on there last year and given bands play unopposed now, the only place for The Prodigy is main stage headliner really as subbing will be too light, especially given its actually 3rd down now as second stage has to go on first. But this is Andy and his choices....you may your money, he really doesn't give a sh*t but given 2nd stage is like 3rd down, The Prodigy are miles above that as are most bands carrying an arena tour without academies.

It wouldn't shock me to see

The Prodigy A7X and Rammstein or Maiden

But I think these 4 plus SOAD is your pool. A7X I'm pretty confident on so 2 out of the remaining 4.

The Offspring, SUM 41, Simple Plan, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, High Vis and Boston Manor all announced for Hurricane/Southside the weekend after Download so I’d expect to see a couple of those on the lineup unless they’re at Slam Dunk or Trees.

Can deffo see The Offspring and Sum 41 as second stage headliners. Noticed The Hives too, believe they've headlined 3rd before and deffo could again. Frank Carter maybe 3rd main but actually would suit 3rd headliner too.

Frank Carter would be a 2nd stage headliner would he not?

Tbh he could do either.....depends what he wants and how Download wanna play it. Enter Shikari in the tent in 2019 was by their request I believe and Electric Callboy this year too I think (anyone verify if EC requested the tent?).

Frank Carter headlined 2nd stage last year so are too big for headlining 3rd

EC requested the tent because of their stage show

No chance of Rammstein, Avenged are nailed on and Maiden are 50/50. Prodigy would be a main sub or 2nd stage headliner now after losing Keith

Nova Rock announcement coming in early November, just like Rock am Ring/Rock im Park.

All these festivals including Download had SOAD for 2020/2021.

It's got to be them?!

I reckon so yeah.

Plus I think one of either Pearl Jam or RATM.

Then probably A7X unfortunately.

The Offspring for second stage Download but it's a bit repetitive. They have already done their own tour plus headlining Slam Dunk off of this album. Sum 41 and Simple Plan back for Slam Dunk I reckon. I'd have out Frank at Trees over Slam Dunk.

The Prodigy headlining 2nd stage at Download would be a ridiculous booking. Without Keith, they still sell arenas easy.

How does that mean it has to SOAD?

It doesn’t have to be but they’re most likely as Download, Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Park and Nova Rock all had them booked during the covid years. They just announced that festival in Vegas and they don’t like doing tours but 4 dates in Europe to make up for the missed shows during covid wouldn’t be a problem for them. The stars are aligning I’d say.

It's definitely starting to look like it's likely to be Avenged Sevenfold, System of A Down and then one massive headliner of either AC/DC, Green Day or My Chemical Romance.

I know the Prodigy still have a big fanbase but have any of their arena shows sold out for December?

They aren't doing bad considering they hit their own shows last year too. A lot of people also at a bigger venue don't want to sit far back for The Prodigy, the likes of Leeds and Cardiff being smaller arenas aren't so bad.

Honestly, if they booked The Prodigy, A7X and SOAD to headline I would probably attend and either watch someone else for A7X or go back drink/go to the dog house or something instead. Unless they change it though to headliners clashing again and subs playing when subs did, The Prodigy would just be stupidly packed....and sub is really too light.

They’ve sold out 2 nights at Ally Pally and the Brighton center show, so that’s at least 25,515 tickets without even taking into account other shows that aren’t sold out that we’re not sure about.

They’d only need to sell another 2,879 per venue for the non sold out shows to make the 40,000 tickets threshold Download looks for to headline so I think they’d still headline.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
