CV East child pick up logistics…?

Hello friendly eFests folk - I’m yet again after your advice around the camper fields, having never camped there before. I did recall reading a similar post to this one, but couldn’t find it when I searched.

We are thinking of bringing our 18-month-old daughter to the festival, possibly Tuesday-Thursday or maybe just Thursday. After this she’d be picked up by my mother-in-law. We are staying in CV East this time around.

I am just trying to get a handle on how easy it would be for MiL to collect her - probably on Friday morning. I’ve read some posts where people have suggested we’d need to get to the drop off point at B&W which seems impractical, and others who’ve suggested we could walk to the CV fields entrance to meet MiL. I also read something’s while back from someone who drove their van out of CV East to meet someone, then returned. Is this possible?

Basically I’d like to know what you lot think is the best option, i.e. what is actually going to be possible, how long will it take and how much faff will it be?

Your MiL can drive the blue route to the CV East entry gate and you can meet her there to hand over the toddler. I’ve done it multiple times. There’s space to pull off the road and it will work fine.

The only issue we had was L user error” on my fathers part a few years ago, he went into the car park and got a bit lost. In terms of the traffic management it’s fine.

This is true - but having previously stewarded a point on the route where this happens, I do need to stress that it needs to be very much a "stop and go" situation. There's some properly heavy traffic coming down that route by Friday (artist coaches, tractors, shit trucks, delivery vans, etc), and it can back up easily when there's multiple cars pulled over. It really does need to be a 30 second stop at most, so be prepared for it on both sides.

How long does it take to get from the camper fields to the entry gate? Obviously depends where we’re pitched - but roughly?

5-25 mins. We’ve been lucky enough to be in E21 several times, but also E16 and E21. E16 was 25 mins to PGC, E20 about 10-12 mins, maybe a bit longer with a toddler in tow!

just read your question properly!

reverse the numbers 😂 about 15/20 mins from E21 to the entry gates, 10 mins from E16

We are doing something very similar with my old man and our boys on FRiday afternoon/evening so they get a day dicking around in the kidz field before we palm them off.

have a spare car park ticket that we got before the van sales that i though might help with this but i dont want to confuse things too much.

Just to idiot proof this -  where exactly do i send my dad to meet us? can someone show me on the map - directionally challenged over here 🙂

This is where I did the handovers. The Blue route is a public road through the middle of those car parks/van fields. At the point I have marked there’s a gate to the left into the van fields and a field gate into the car park. That one was closed but there is a pull in either side of the road at that point. They can even pull in as if they are coming into van field, there’s a whole area in there where it’s busy on Tuesday/Wednesday during arrivals, but empty after that. Just a container where confiscated glass is stored, etc.

Not 100% sure, and someone will need to confirm, but think it's here:

Caveat, I've never met anyone to exchange small humans.

I'd not be keen on walking up that long winding uphill lane back up to the entry gate, can the exchange be done at gate B? There's a road up from the Tony Benn tower up there.

There is a designated drop off / pick up point, (https://glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/2592-2/) but it's off to the East and goes to Gate A. You'd have more to see with the kids if you went to Gate A to handover to a relative who can take them off the pick up point where someone can drive to collect them?

Yeah ive looked at that drop off but it feels like a massive ballache to trek all the way across the site and back again when we will be in the campervan fields anyway to pick up their car seats.

I might do a little recce on one of hte nights and get the what 3 words for that layby on the Blue Route to give us more of a chance of hitting it at the same time.

Happy with that  - cheers for the info everyone. So flipping excited now...

Do a recce, I think you’ll satisfy yourself that the Blue route option at the gate is fine. I did it about 3 or 4 times and only one with a very minor snag. You can send them pictures of the spot, drop a pin, What3Words, etc., and make sure they and you have charged mobiles.
