yeah, I don't know...to be honest I don't follow US politics that closely. But as you say could be someone Trump like who is the next republican candidate. The worry is if it is someone like Trump but with actual brains.

ok...sorry...I couldn't bring myself to watch that video yesterday...I was getting all wound up because the rise of far right nationalism/populism everywhere worries me. I guess with this though the minister is trying to appeal to Le Pen voters by looking more anti-Islam, and Le Pen appealing to more moderate voters. I mean...for me, a liberal lefty, the choice in France is not great. but I would take Macron over Le Pen or any of the other right wing candidates any day. Macron is still favourite to win, but Le Pen is smart, and has shifted a bit to look more moderate as opposed to that nutty Zemmour bloke, and she could do it, like brexit here and Trump in US.

it also would take years before they could start extracting that gas, and we don't know how much there is down there...so will likely not make any siginificant difference to gas prices. What we need is to reduce gas demand, not increase gas supply. Turn down those thermostats, insulate those homes, assist the poor with benefits, replace gas boilers, invest in renewables. Time to get serious about this climate thing.

The government didn't go ahead with it due to a strong tory voting NIMBY movement and backbencher unrest.  The goalposts have recently moved.  Its going to happen if there is viable amounts.
