The Killers

I think it goes back to that personal frustration. I missed an all-timer and got what felt like the straightest bat of the run, having also been treated to the straight bat shows on Imploding the Mirage.

Was the one you wanted to go to the show with Battle Born in mid-set? Curious they brought it back only to drop it after one date.

Nearest to a surprise at my show was Bling, which is debatable if it counts as a surprise given it's been in my Killers sets more often than not.

Looks like floor seating in Highland for tonight's show. Interesting.

Appears these three shows in casino venues and the like are booked as warm-ups for Innings Festival over the weekend. They do enjoy a small gig, this lot.

Tbf I was surprised when I saw that Scissor Sisters was all seater. Maybe sometimes this can appear in unexpected ways.

Stuck around the night after too, which read as more of an Imploding the Mirage-era Night #2 setlist.

Battle Born remains one of my favourite records, but do remain perpetually disappointed that The Way It Was has cemented itself as the de-facto secondary pick from the album live. More than twice as many appearances as the next cut off the album. (Miss Atomic Bomb, for those curious.)

Would be very chuffed to see them rustle around a bit more and have a rotation spot from the record live, preferably between Here With MeMiss Atomic Bomb and Battle Born.

Innings Festival to end this short run last night. Opened with a cover of Centerfield for the first time, and tossed Mr. Brightside second in, but otherwise nothing too exceptional. Running Towards a Place and The Way It Was are the nominal deep cuts, so pretty much played with a straight bat.

I thought this was an event for baseball fans, so yeah, I wasn't expecting big things.

They do have one-off festivals in May, June and August and I assume one-offs will be paired. But I'm also curious as to what this all means - I thought the original idea was a new Brandon solo album this year, but feels like we might be waiting a little longer. Or maybe it's been shelved and something else might pop along in their near future.

Yeah, I'm guessing Brandon solo is on the backburner, or potentially Mark and Dave aren't fussed about cutting new tracks. If that's the case, it could easily be repurposed for a new Killers album - or indeed vice versa. Can't help feeling Spirit would have been better suited to a Brandon solo album than one of three extras on a greatest hits album.

Certainly, Boy and Your Side of Town felt more like full-band tracks whereas Spirit did feel like something more like an electronic side-project. It seemed to fade out quickly from appearing on the Rebel Diamonds shows here last summer and now seems out of contention all together.

It's obviously always a degree of personal taste, but of the stand-alone compilation cuts, Spirit sits second behind Shot at the Night for me. Then it is probably Just Another GirlBoy and Your Side of Town, though I do like them all.

But there's a jump between those first two and the rest - and there's a jump within the former pair too. Shot at the Night sustaining itself as a live regular kind of makes me wonder if the band view it as a de-factor second cut from Battle Born when compiling their live shows. (Believe Brandon has said he wrote it while they were touring said record in Australia.)

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
