REM Secret Set or Sub?

People on this forum seem to lose sight that to most if not all acts Glastonbury is just another festival. All this talk on the other thread of bands reforming and having Glastonbury as their number 1 priority is mental talk. They don't think of Glastonbury like we all do.

Exactly, for most of these bands the main reason/motivation to reform would be cash e.g. Oasis. To think they would do so for relative peanuts at Glastonbury when they could arrange their own shows and cream it in is unrealistic at best.

I would absolutely love this but think that it is very very unlikely. The only possible thing I could envisage is a cameo with Radiohead, who they are very close to. Especially if Radiohead were in their wind-down phase.

even if REM were reforming, which is incredibly unlikely, there's next to no hope that they're going to do is subbing anyone, or as a secret set at Glastonbury.

not true really. while they are not reforming at all, if there was any credence to this it would be quite reasonable to expect they would take the slot before their good friends Radiohead whom they watched from side of stage in 2003, at a festival they have gone on record as saying they have high respect for ...in fact i wouldn't be surprised if the fact they both played in 2003 was coordinated in some way.

but, it's not happening. just a ludicrous thought - and thread - as brilliant as it would be.

Have I missed something where Radiohead said this?? Or are you just saying it because they've been around a while?

I am making an enormous leap, but including older songs on the last album, the special edition of OK Computer and playing a lot of older songs live again does feel like a bit transition to something. Just my guess

and just to put a complete end to any REM thought, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey are part of the Alejandro Escovedo tour that is still going on, and they have gigs on Fri/Sat of Glastonbury. They are touring now and will be touring then. There are no REM rehearsals going on! end this...

I see what you mean - I've felt since it was announced that this Glastonbury headline slot might be the swansong. Will be interesting to see what kind of setlist it'll be.

Hope not though.

@tevaburger yeah it seemed more hopeful than anything. REM were never my favourite band but I rated NAIHF and a few other songs.

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
    • Think this will be it...I think they are a level above trees.
