Thurs eve

Hello!

I am turning to these boards for help and support.

Forever (or at least well over ten yrs), we have arrived at the farm on Weds morning… this year, because of work and other grown up disasters, we can’t get down til Thurs evening. Now, we have people going ahead and setting up tents for us on the Weds morn so not concerned about camping issues that follow from arriving late, but am getting really scared that we are going to miss out on loads of the festival by arriving Thurs eve, or at least ‘feel’ like we have.

I know, on one hand, we are only missing out on one night and it shouldn’t affect things too much, but, on other hand, it’s two days! Those who have arrived Thurs eve before, how does it compare to the full five days? I am having a PANIC!

In itself it's not too bad, but I have to confess that was the first year I went; every year since has got progressively earlier.  How you'll find it having been to the promised land of early arrivals I don't know.  That might sour it a bit for you.

Just try not to get all giddy and smash your stash as soon as you arrive!

If it's any consolation, arriving Thursday is a hundred times better than not arriving at all. I can't go this year cos it's my Mam's 60th birthday, yet I can't stop checking this site and getting jealously excited. I'm gonna spend the weekend swearing at my tv!

You'll have a right bloody laugh. Just focus on that first glorious outdoor pint . . .

I know - I do know how lucky we are, we nearly couldn't make it at all. You'll be back next yr!

It's my Mam though. She's my only proper relative. I miss her birthday pretty much every year cos she has the temerity to have it when glastonbury's on! Normally she tries to be on holiday for it, which suits me perfectly . . .

But anyways: back on topic. Glastonbury. I'm jealous. Heading in on Thursday means there'll be no traffic probs, parking will be a breeze, and there'll be no queues. Nice

It is annoying, it's true. A bit like going straight into your main course without having a starter. On the other hand, it is rather nice getting to the end of the festival and not being quite so broken. After all, do you really need a starter with a main course so rich?

My issue was not chilling out enough, as I felt like I had to make up for lost time. Then again, I spent most of the festival on my own (just camped with friends of friends), which always makes me more restless than usual.

We're in exactly the same boat this year. Normally arrive v early Wednesday but due to a plethora of reasons we're having to head down Thurs post work.

Taking the positives from it, I'm looking forward to feeling a lot fresher when the main stuff kicks off on Friday. I also anticipate having a lot more energy on Sunday than I normally would do. The hangover shouldn't be anywhere near as bad on Monday as well.

Lastly it should be a breeze getting on site, that coupled with the tent being set up by mates who are arriving early, means for one year at least, it's not the end of the world arriving late.

Hope you have a good festival!

Yes, the reduced hangover is a boon - the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!

I feel a bit less panicked. I have always (whisper it) found the Weds to be the dullest day once the excitement of having arrived is over, so - fingers crossed - will not feel like we've missed out too much. It's going to be hard sat at desk and refreshing webcam though!

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
